Story

Each year, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation hosts the Tunnel to Towers Tower Climb at One World Trade Center in New York City. One thousand participants climb 104 stories in honor of the heroes of 9/11—symbolizing strength, hope, and the resilience of the American spirit.

The climb pays tribute to FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in full gear to the Twin Towers and gave his life saving others, and Captain William F. Burke, Jr., who led his men to safety from the North Tower before losing his own life. Their courage represents the selfless sacrifice this event was built upon.

This year, we climb in honor of Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller. Damon gave his life in the line of duty protecting our community, and his legacy of bravery, leadership, and service continues to inspire us. We run and climb not just to remember—but to carry his name, his sacrifice, and his spirit upward, step by step. Your support honors Damon and all who serve with courage beyond measure.
