The 26th annual Dash for Donation will be here before we know it!
Eight years ago, we learned that the baby we were expecting was not going to live very long, if at all. Shortly after receiving this information, we set forth on a mission to create a life rich with meaning, no matter how short it may be.
A major part of Noah's legacy is his contribution to the world of organ donation. Because of Noah, Lifeline of Ohio was motivated to create a new neonatal program to facilitate donation from the tiniest of donors. As a result, Noah's lungs, kidneys, liver, pancreas, small intestine, trachea, and thymus were donated to researchers near and far to help them learn more about various conditions and diseases and ways to treat them. This research will further the understanding of ailments that affect millions of people around the world and will hopefully lead to advances that help these people live healthier, fulfilling lives.
In addition to the neonatal program, Lifeline of Ohio was also inspired by Noah to create a new placenta donation program. Since its inception in 2019, this program has facilitated over 2,500 placenta donations, which have been used to create over 62,000 (!!!) healing grafts that are used for the treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure sores, and burns. These grafts promote natural healing and reduce pain, inflammation, and scarring.
Each summer, we participate in the Dash for Donation to remember and honor Noah, to show our thanks to Lifeline of Ohio for making his gifts to research possible, and to encourage people to register to be a potential organ donor so that more people can receive lifesaving transplants and spend more time with their families while continuing to contribute to our world in meaningful ways.
On Saturday, July 12, our team will walk/run/jog with thousands of others through downtown Columbus to raise awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation. The Dash is raising funds to benefit Lifeline of Ohio’s programs, and all contributions will celebrate the ripple effect each can make through organ, eye and tissue donation.
