Council Vice President Will Jawando was elected to an At-Large seat on the Montgomery County Council in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. He uses his platform to push for equitable treatment and outcomes through legislation such as the Law Enforcement Trust and Transparency Act, the CROWN Act, and additional legislation on police use of force. In 2020, the Council passed a resolution authored by Councilmember Jawando declaring racism as a public health emergency.
Councilmember Jawando grew up in the Long Branch Community, attending MCPS elementary and middle schools before moving to St. Johns College High School on scholarship. He completed his undergraduate and Law degrees at Catholic University, where he also formed the university’s first NAACP chapter. After graduation, he worked on Capitol Hill for Speaker Pelosi, Senator Brown and then-Senator Obama before going on to work in the Obama White House and Department of Education. He lives in Ashton, Maryland with his wife and four children.
