My name is Courtney Schroyer, and I am currently in my eighth year serving as a Cruelty Investigator with the Toledo Humane Society. The Toledo Humane Society is the primary organization in Lucas County that investigates and prosecutes animal cruelty cases. In 2025, our Cruelty Department responded to over 3,000 reports of abuse and neglect and seized nearly 1,000 animals in need of help. Many of these animals required extensive medical and behavioral treatment.
