Italian Home for Children is a 105-year-old nonsectarian nonprofit in Boston dedicated to supporting youth, adults, and families from all backgrounds facing educational and behavioral health challenges. We serve children ages 4–18 through day and residential programs tailored to evolving needs—especially those with complex behavioral health concerns, trauma histories, or nowhere else to turn.

Our Neurodevelopmental Unit (NDU) is the first CBAT in Massachusetts specifically designed for youth ages 4–14 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Intellectual Disabilities (ID) experiencing a mental health crisis. Located on our 8-acre Jamaica Plain campus, the NDU provides short-term, intensive treatment in a safe, nurturing setting.

What sets the NDU apart is its multidisciplinary approach—combining the expertise of a BCBA, clinician, nurse, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, and 24/7 behavioral support at a 1:2 staffing ratio. Our goal is to help children stabilize, regain their baseline functioning, and transition to less restrictive environments with the skills and support they need to thrive.
