Story

This will be the second year I am going to participate in Seattle’s Most Iconic Climb, Base 2 Space (climbing the Space Needle  stairs from the bottom to the top!!!) on September 28th to support Fred Hutch Cancer Center through the Space Needle Foundation. I am raising money through your contributions to help get closer to the $750,000 goal!

The Space Needle Foundation is proud to support Fred Hutch Cancer Center, a world-renowned organization dedicated to preventing and eliminating cancer and infectious disease. All donations raised during Base 2 Space will be directed to Fred Hutch and the Space Needle Foundation. As a component of the Seattle Foundation, the Space Needle Foundation is committed to elevating our collective future by supporting organizations who are at the forefront of transforming lives and make a positive difference in the Puget Sound region and beyond.

Personally, supporting cancer research, treatment, and how to navigate life with this diagnosis has become a greater part of my mindset. Last year’s climb was my first and it was an incredible experience! The energy of those involved in the race, those volunteering, or participating in any way…just all of us coming together…brought a greater awareness of the impact that places like the Fred Hutch Cancer Center can have to help prevent and eliminate cancer in our communities! Last year right after I had signed up for the race, 3 friends were diagnosed with cancer and they were going to be treated at Fred Hutch Cancer Center! I started training with those individuals and the list I created of people who were affected by cancer that were part of my life. This made the experience of preparing not to keel over when climbing the stairs and the fundraising component (which I am uncomfortable with), made what I was doing have even more meaning!Throughout the years I have known many who have survived cancer, some who haven’t, and recently family members just diagnosed who are battling the disease at this moment! If you can be part of this journey by donating or sharing in someone’s cancer experience supporting them along the way, I thank you!
