Where can athletes find the course information?  Athletes are responsible to study and know the course.  The race has 14 separate events and 2 different starting points.  Every event that includes a swim discipline starts at the beach.  The 5K/10K and RunBikeRun events start at the race finish line.  We highly recommend that athletes familiarize themselves with the bike and run course by driving or riding it prior to the race if possible.  There is a pre race clinic which includes a preview of both the sprint & Olympic bike course.

Go Digital.  Every Ride and Route on Ride with GPS can be downloaded as a TCX Course, TCX History, FIT Course, GPX Track, CSV, or KML file.  TCX Course and FIT Course files contain all the turn-by-turn navigation.  Instructions to do that are HERE. The alternative is to go old school and tape a copy of the turn by turn cue sheets on their bike.  There are police at major intersections and volunteer course marshals at other key locations as well as route arrows markings on the road.  The police are primarily there to provide athletes the right of way at intersections and not provide course instructions.  Athletes are responsible to study and know the course

Where and how many aid stations are there?  There are 3 aid stations on the run course which is best described as an out and back on Jefferson Drive.

  • Aid Station #1.  Run Start (42 Edgewater Drive)
  • Aid Station #2:  5K turnaround (Jefferson Drive & Axle Tree Road)
  • Aid Station #3:  10K turnaround (Jefferson Drive & Brassie Terrance)

Can I wear headphones during the race?  Run?  No.  It is not safe because it could prevent you from hearing other athletes near you or directions from volunteers and staff.

What is the parking situation like?  The Lake Monticello Club House at 41 Ashlawn Boulevard, Charlottesville, VA US 22963 is your destination on race morning.  Lake Monticello is a gated community.  After entering, there is street parking.  Additionally, there is offsite parking which is particularly useful for athlete pickup & drop off at Crofton Plaza at 101 Crofton Plaza, Palmyra, VA 22963.  (Do not park at BP or Fluvanna Hardware Store)

How will the award ceremonies be conducted?  Top 3 overall awards ceremonies for each event (M/F) will be conducted.  Please consult the race day schedule for times.  Athletes will be required to wear masks and we will maintain 6' of distance.  Note:  Cal Tri Events races do not include age group award event ceremonies.  With 14 events and up to 20 age groups it isn't practical due to time constraints.  All Cal Tri Events participants are eligible for pride and prizes in the Grand Prix USA.
