500Μ SWIM 20K BIKE 5K RUN
This triathlon will begin at 8am with a 500 meter swim in beautiful Kickapoo Lake. After a quick lakeside transition athletes will head out for a smooth, fast two loop 20k bike course that brings them back to the transition area. Athletes will then run on a shaded, rolling out and back 5k course before returning to the finish line. This race is held completely within beautiful Shakamak State Park with little if any traffic making it perfect for beginners or those seeking a race PR. Awards and post race refreshments following the race.
With many races being cancelled around the country our team has been meeting and discussing at great lengths about how we can safely keep this special race on the calendar. Our top priority is making sure we keep our fellow triathletes safe while racing Kickapoo. We will be making some changes to this years race in order to do our part to minimize the risk of exposure to this virus. We believe with these changes along with the help of athletes, Kickapoo can be another amazing and safe race day experience for everyone.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON RACE DAY?
-We will be enforcing social distancing (6ft) at the packet pickup area.
-We will be doing a quick temperature check at packet pick up for all athletes and volunteers.
-All volunteers around transition area and aid stations will be wearing masks (and gloves if around consumables)
-We will be limiting the number of athletes allowed in transition area for set up.
-Hand sanitizer will be available for athletes and volunteers.
-We encourage all athletes to wear a mask before and after race around transition/recovery area.
-There will be NO awards ceremony after the event. Award winners will pick up awards at awards tent.
-Results will be available at Timingmd.net
-Post race food will be served and handled by race staff (no self serve)
-All drinks (including on course) will be in prepackaged bottles.

We want to race as much as everyone but if we are going to continue our sport we need the help of ALL athletes.

RACE DAY SCHEDULE
6am Packet Pickup (NO RACEDAY REGISTRATION)
6am Transition opens (10 athletes in transition area at a time) *volunteers will be assisting with transition setup.
7:30am Athlete meeting around transition area.
7:50am Transition closes. Swim start staging begins.
8:00am Rolling time trial start (athletes time starts at timing mat). Athletes will enter water 2x2 starting 5-8 seconds apart.
POST RACE FOOD & DRINK Served at finish/recovery area.
NO Award Ceremony Awards will be available at awards tent/table.
A 500 meter clockwise swim in beautiful Kickapoo Lake. Water temps around 80 degrees.
The bike course is a two loops around Shakamak Park with little if any traffic. While mostly flat and fast there are a few small rollers tossed in for fun.
This run course is out and back with a few rollers 2 aid stations and a lot of shade.
While this is NOT a certified USAT course we will be adhering to those rules for a safe and fair race.
It is unlikely that this race will be a wetsuit swim. If the water temperature is over 78 degrees on race morning athletes that choose to wear a wetsuit will start at the back of the field and will not be eligible for awards.
Life jackets, snorkels, pull buoys or any device aiding or providing floatation will NOT be allowed.
ALL ATHLETES MUST WEAR A CERTIFIED BICYLE HELMET WHILE RIDING. NO EXCEPTIONS.
This is a NON DRAFTING bike course. Please maintain a 12m distance between your front wheel and the bike in front of you.
Ride to the right side of the road. Pass on the left. Communicate with other athletes when overtaking them.
Do not litter. Lets keep this park beautiful. Drop all trash in transition areas or at aid stations.
It is the athletes responsibility to understand and stay on the race course. If you have any questions please ask prior to swim start.
All athletes must wear a timing chip to receive a finish time and place. NO CHIP NO TIME.
Custom Awards will be given to TOP 3 finishers in the following age groups.
