Description

Poplar Point is one of the many venues that comprise NC state-owned land along Jordan Lake – just west of Raleigh. Set Up Events used to stage a half iron distance race at New Hope Overlook on Jordan Lake, and of course, WTC stages the Raleigh 70.3 race at Vista Point on Jordan Lake.

Poplar Point is one of the largest state-owned properties on Jordan Lake and has the most campsites of any of their parks on the lake. Participants coming in from out of town for this race will have the luxury of being able to stay at beautiful campsites only a few yards from the main race location.

Another “Sprinter” distance race in the Centennial Endurance Challenge, Raleigh area triathletes will have a unique distance triathlon to enjoy in the fall of 2016.As with the other races in the series, there will be plenty of parking at the race site.

The swim starts and finishes on the sandy beach at Poplar Point, and is a triangular shaped course.

The 18.5 mile bike course will bring back memories of the Duke Liver Center Half that Set Up produced for well over ten years. Triangle area triathletes spend many hours biking on the roads that comprise the Poplar Point bike course. Area triathletes who know the area are aware that there aren’t any big hills, just a collection of rollers and long flat stretches.

The 4.5 mile run course will be an “out & back” design – one loop. Of course, as with all the races in Centennial Endurance Challenge, the entire run will take place inside the park and will feature lots of shade.
