Wednesday - Swim Course

Good evening everyone! We wanted to take a little time today to talk about the SWIM, as well as how we are doing the START FOR THE SWIM AND THE DUATHLON. 

There will be a youth race on Sunday as well. The youth swim will be a short swim, starting in the water, out to our lifeguard and back. Total distance is 100 yards. 

First off, the swim. The swim will be a self seeded start, with swimmers going over a check-in mat, 10 at a time. WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO WEAR THEIR DISPOSABLE MASK TO THE SWIM START, WHILE YOU QUEUE UP. There will be a trashcan at the water's edge for you to discard it.

The first 10 people will enter the water, and we will stop the rest ( a fair distance back). Those swimmers will move to a GREEN BUOY in the water and we will count you down to start. When we say GO, you go! We will wait about 15 seconds for them to clear and us to make sure that everyone is good, and then we will allow the next 10 swimmers to go over the mat and enter the water. This will continue until we have everyone started. Triathlon, Aquabike, Relays, you can all start anytime you want in this method. 

You will see a number of buoys in the water. YOU SHOULD KEEP ALL BUOYS, REGARDLESS OF COLOR, TO YOUR LEFT!! You are swimming the perimeter of the pond, so just follow the buoys. You are swimming in a COUNTER CLOCKWISE circle! At the end, there is an island that you will navigate around. Stay between the island, and the buoy (to your left) to get back to the finish. 

Once you exit the water, run up the beach area to transition and prepare for your bike!

Duathletes, you will start in a similar manner. 10 of you will cross a timing mat. This mat CHECKS YOU IN TO A WAVE. It is NOT the starting line. You will hear a countdown to your start and then you will GO GO GO!!! We will wait 15 seconds, to make sure that everyone gets off alright, and then we will load the next 10 runners over the mat. WAIT TO BE COUNTED DOWN before you go. We should be starting heats every 2 minutes or so. 

Once you complete your loop around the course, you will enter transition and start your bike!
