I am participating in Seattle’s Most Iconic Climb, Base 2 Space on September 28th, to support Fred Hutch Cancer Center through the Space Needle Foundation. Donate today and help us get closer to our $750,000 goal!
As many of you know, I have been diagnosed with 2 different cancers in my short 34 years. In 2018, the dermatologist found a suspicious spot on my back that ended up being Melanoma. Thankfully it was early and all I needed was a short procedure to cut out the rest. Fast forward to a dentist appointment in 2022. A routine check of my jaw/neck area showed there was a mass in my neck. After following up with my doctor, it was Papillary Thyroid Cancer and it had spread out to my lymph nodes. This treatment was going to be more intense. But I was told, "If you are going to get cancer, this is the one you want to get." I would need surgery to remove my entire thyroid gland as well as the affected lymph nodes. That resulted in a 6+ inch scar on my chest and running up the side of my neck. After surgery, I would need to have radioactive iodine therapy. This meant I needed to be completely isolated from all people and pets for 1 week while was radioactive. Good news, that all went well and my labs came back "undetectable."
All that to say, Fred Hutch holds a special place in my heart. I am excited to challenge myself on the Base to Space! Any and all donations you are able to give are so appreciated, not only by me but all those affected by cancer. <3
