Market-based socio-cultural conservation is an approach to tourism development that integrates economic incentives with cultural and societal conservation efforts. I am passionate about this and made it my research program professionally!
My research focuses on creating sustainable economic models in tourism development whereby local populations whose culture is in danger of extinction benefit. The practices I use are often called ecotourism, cultural experiences, or community-based enterprises. The bottom line is that financial benefits end up in local communities while their culture is actively conserved by celebrating their cultural heritage.
COCE (https://www.cocekenya.org/where-we-work) is an organization involved in market-based socio-cultural conservation in Busai County, a rural area of Kenya. Running is the famous sport in this region. Thus, we are holding a global running event! Busai is located on beautiful Lake Victoria and runs along the Uganda border.
