Description

The US Performance Center Draft Legal Triathlon Festival is a day of collegiate and open draft legal triathlon racing featuring both the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon East National Qualifier and an Open Draft Legal Super Sprint. Proudly presented by the Charlotte, NC based US Performance Center and staged out of beautiful Lake Norman State Park, this draft legal triathlon features clear water, rolling courses and great racing. The swim start features a sandy beach start and a crisp, clear lake. The bike and run courses are rolling and stay completely inside the park. Each lap of the bike and run courses bring athletes through the race site, so get ready to watch some great racing!

If you are spectating and bringing the family this is a great time of the year to be in the Carolinas. Lake Norman is home to numerous lodging options and attractions including great trail running and mountain biking in the park. You can learn more about the area HERE. Be sure to book your rooms early as hotels tend to fill up in advance.

This is the East Regional Qualifiers first year at Lake Norman State Park. You can check out video footage from prior years at Sandling Beach, NC or Smith Mountain Lake State Park, VA HERE.

Please note The DI, DII, DII draft legal races are for Collegiate athletes only!
The Open Draft Legal Super Sprint is open to anyone wanting to try their hand at draft legal triathlon.

Course Maps

Open Draft Legal Super Sprint (Course Maps HERE)

Swim Course:
The 500 meter swim takes place in the cool, clear waters of Lake Norman. After a sandy beach start and finish athletes run 150 meters to the transition area. Please note any athlete that has not finished the swim when the first cyclist has started their 2nd lap on the bike will not be allowed to start the bike portion. We anticipate a water temperature between 66-75F.

Draft Legal Bike Course:  This challenging, 2-loop bike course is contained entirely inside Lake Norman State Park. Featuring a well paved 5k loop with 415′ of climbing (total) and gorgeous views. After exiting the transition area athletes ride out towards the main entrance and turnaround just prior to St. Johns Rd. Athletes will loop around and ride back through the transition area to start their 2nd lap. Athletes in these draft legal races are expected to have excellent bike handling skills and be able to safely ride in packs as this is a draft legal event.  Elevation profile and online map HERE.  The Lap Out Rule WILL be enforced for all races.

Run Course:  The run is a rolling, 2-loop out and back course contained entirely within the state park with water available each lap. Elevation profile and online map HERE.
