TEAM MICHAEL is excited to participate in the 2026 ASCV 5K & Family Fun Day, raising funds for the Autism Society of Central Virginia (ASCV)! This event isn’t just about crossing the finish line—it’s about coming together to support autistic individuals and their families right here in our community.
Michael de Groot is 26 years old and lives at the Faison Residence in Richmond. Michael lives alone in his apartment where he cooks and cleans for himself. Michael LOVES living independently! He has a part-time job at Michael’s store in Short Pump where he works as a retail stocker. He mostly works in the frame department.
Michael has two adoring older sisters, Kelly and Lauren. Michael recently became an uncle to Lauren and Saman’s son, Graham. Michael loves being an uncle and looks forward to playing with Graham and reading to him!
In his free time, Michael likes to build with Legos, play video games, work on his screenplay writing https://www.screenplaysandartbymichael.com/, and participate in group activities and outings with the Autism Society of Central Virginia. Through the ASCV, Michael enjoys bowling, hikes with Beyond Boundaries, and improv workshops with Bridge 9. In addition, Michael recently went to a virtual reality entertainment center and said it was “awesome”!
Michael and his family are competing in their 21th ASCV 5K & Family Fun Day, another of Michael’s favorite events! Michael’s parents have been members of the Autism Society of Central Virginia since Michael was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of three.
The ASCV 5K & Family Fun Day is an annual event to raise funds for programs and resources to benefit local autism families. The ASCV has been an invaluable resource to Michael and his family.
Every donation — whether it’s $5 or $500 — makes a difference! Funds raised help ASCV provide:
⭐ Social & recreational programs for autistic individuals of all ages
⭐ Support groups & resources for families and caregivers
⭐ Community trainings & advocacy to foster acceptance and inclusion
⭐ Scholarships & financial assistance to help families access services
Last year alone, ASCV hosted 460+ programs for more than 11,200 participants —but the need continues to grow. Many programs now have waitlists, and demand for services is higher than ever. Your support will help ASCV expand its reach, ensuring that more individuals and families get the resources they need.
Help us make an impact! Donate to TEAM MICHAEL today and be part of something truly meaningful. Every dollar counts, and we're so grateful for your generosity!
