PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Sierra Challenge Express Running Club is pleased to award grants and scholarships to youth runners in need.  Scholarship recipients are cross-country or track runners selected based on the following criteria:

1. Financial need
2. Academic achievement
3. Extra-curricular activities, community involvement, and/or volunteer experience
4. Running achievements

Grants and scholarships are awarded in 3 different age groups:

1. The Jackrabbit:  Ages 9-13 – grant of $100 towards purchase of running gear at Fleet Feet
2. The Gazelle:  Ages 14-17 – grant of $250 towards purchase of running gear at Fleet Feet
3. The Cheetah: Ages 18-22 – scholarship of $1,000 towards college education

APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process is comprised of 4 parts:

1. Application Form – Print and complete PDF file below
2. Short Essay – Written by the applicant, addressing the five criteria listed above
3. Letter of Recommendation – 1-page recommendation from a running coach, mailed directly by the coach
4. Proof of Enrollment (Cheetah only) – proof of acceptance or enrollment in a 2-4 year college program

Applications will be accepted via postal mail or email.  The applicant should submit the Application Form and Short Essay, and the coach should submit the Letter of Recommendation.  Please mail to the address below.

Scholarship application deadline is July 31st.  

AWARD NOTIFICATION

The Sierra Challenge Express Scholarship Committee will review all completed applications received by the deadline and will award the grants scholarships to those individuals which are deemed to excel most consistently with the criteria listed above. 

More than one winner may come from the same school.

Scholarship winners will be notified shortly after the July 31st due date.  Awards will be distributed at a future Sierra Challenge Express Breakfast Club gathering.
