NYPRA Points Series
How It Works
Throughout the season, NYPRA members earn points based on their finishes in select races. These points are tallied at the end of the year, and Points Champions are crowned at our annual banquet!
This series fosters a spirit of amateur competition at smaller events across New York. Kayak and Canoe points are counted separately, with champions awarded in different boat classes.
Eligibility
To qualify for the Points Series Championship, racers must:
✅ Be a NYPRA member
✅ Participate in at least 5 races
✅ If a racer competes in more than five, only their best six races are counted
Point Breakdown:
Canoe and kayak points are awarded by your placing:
🏆 1st place: 30 points
🥈 2nd place: 20 points
🥉 3rd place: 15 points
4th place: 10 points
5th place: 5 points
6th place: 4 points
7th place: 3 points
8th place: 2 points
any other finisher: 1 point
Kayak Points System
Points are awarded separately for:
- Men’s & Women’s categories
- Open and Sport classes
🔹 If a race includes age categories, they are combined.
🔹 No point combination between Open and Sport categories—each racer accumulates points separately.
🔹 K2 Scoring: Each paddler in a K2 race receives the same points and are accumulated into that paddlers points.
🔹 K2 points can be added to either Open or Sport, due to limited K2 participation
Canoe Points System
Canoe points are awarded separately for:
- Amateur & Stock categories (no combining points across classes)
- Men’s, Women’s & Mixed divisions
🔸 If a race includes age categories, they are combined
🔸 C2 & C4 Canoe Racing: Each paddler earns full points.
- Example: In C4, a 2nd place finish means each paddler gets 20 points.
