SEGMENT #3 - THE SUNKEN MEADOW XC 5K

Starts at 12:00am on October 26th, ends at 11:59 on November 1st.

The 5k Cross Country course at Sunken Meadow is a Long Island Classic. This is the same course used for many Section XI and NYSPHSAA High School Championship Cross Country meets throughout the fall each year. For anybody who has run this course before knows how challenging this course can be, while also being very scenic. If you've never run this route before, make sure you study the directions well. Also follow the link below to view the route on Strava. Segment #3 of the FSS will be a tough one, but definitely a fun one!

STARTING LINE - This course begins by the trees on the east edge of "Parking Lot 1." You will head east from here. 
1. Head east, cross the road diagonally, and keep running until you reach the Moat Bridge at the 1/2 mile mark. Turn right onto the bridge then right onto the Moat path.
2. Head west through the trees along the river for about 1/4 mile, then turn left up the hill. When you come to the clearing, turn sharp left.
3. Head east along the fence to your left for about 1/4 mile up the gradual part of "Snake Hill," then turn right up the steep part of "Snake Hill." Continue to turn right to descend the steep downhill.
4. Proceed west along the downhill path after Snake. Cross over the concrete path and follow the gravel path along the fence on the left. Turn sharp left at the end of this fence along the path. You're now in "Picnic Area" about 1.3 miles into the course.
5. Complete one full loop around Picnic Area, then head into the trees towards Cardiac.
6. Turn left to run up Cardiac, then turn right after you reach the top of Cardiac to go down hill.
7. At the bottom of the down hill, turn left, then quickly turn right into Short Meadow. Turn right again when you reach the next path along the fence to go back towards Picnic Area. DO NOT GO LONG MEADOW.
8. When you reach Picnic Area, cross over the path you ran before and run through Picnic Area back towards Moat.
9. Enter the downhill into moat, then head east along the river back towards the Moat Bridge.
10. Turn left when you cross the Moat Bridge. You have about 300 meters to go.
11. Stay along the bushes to your left.
FINISH LINE - The finish is along the bushes to the left. You should see a pretty obvious line in the ground that has been there for years to indicate the finish line. Run through the line to ensure you completed the segment.
