Backyard Burn Virtual Trail Running Challenge

Sun October 18 - Sun November 22

FAQS

Can I walk or hike to meet the distance goal?
Yes, absolutely!!

Can I run on a treadmill?
Yes, absolutely!!

Do I have to run on trails, or can I run on pavement as well?
Not all (or any really) of your runs need to be on trails, but we think trails rock...so we encourage you to take this opportunity to explore your local trails.  We know that many routes (including our inspirational routes) have sections of pavement.  We also know that you might not live close to trails.  It's all good.

Do I need to run all 50, 100, or 150 miles at once?
No.  This challenge is NOT meant to be accomplished in a single run (although you could), but rather in as many runs as you need.  50 miles is about 1.4 miles per day, 100 miles is about 2.8 miles per day, and 150 miles is 4.2 miles per day over the 5 week challenge.

How often do I need to log my miles?
As often as you want, but it's best to log them daily or every few days so you don't forget.  It's also cool to see your progress!!

What happens if I run MORE than my goal?
Your miles keep adding up!  If you reach your goal...then keep running!  See how many miles you can accumulate during the challenge!

How do I log my miles?
Go to the Results page and click Submit Virtual Results.  Then search for your registration.  Click the Log Activities next to your name.  If you aren't logged in, you can quickly verify yourself by phone number or email.  Click Add an Activity and then enter the date and distance of your run. You may also enter the time and elevation gain and a comment.  Entering the time will enable the system to calculate your average pace.  Entering elevation will enable the system to track you total elevation.  Pretty cool huh!!  Note: If you had multiple runs in a day, you can enter each new run by clicking "Add Another Activity" button or you can aggregate them together for the day.  Either works fine.  Don't forget to hit submit results when you are done!

Can I run the inspirational routes?
Yes, you certainly can...but the challenge was designed so that you can run your miles anywhere - any state, any town, any road, any trail, any treadmill.  The inspirational route is not marked at all and we did not check to make sure the entire route is open and passable.  We will use the route to give you a visual depiction of your progress throughout the challenge.

Do I have to start on October 18th?
No.  You can start anytime during the challenge as long as you think you can meet your 50, 100, or 150 mile goal by November 22nd.

When will I receive my swag (t-shirt, medal, and buff)?
Swag will be shipped no later than the first week in December, but we'll likely start shipping in mid-November.

How do I create or join a team during registration?
During registration, you will be asked if you'd like to join or create a team.  Simple select yes and follow the instructions.

How do I create or join or manage a team AFTER I've already registered?
Log in to RunSignUp --> Select Profile (top right) -->  Select the Manage Registration link in the Backyard Burn Virtual Trail Running Challenge section under upcoming races --> Select Group/Teams in the top navigation.  Then use the options on the page to create, join, or manage your team.  You can do all sorts of cool things like add members (if you are the captain), invite others to register, etc.

How do I change from the 100 mile to the 50 mile challenge, etc?
Note:  You will lose your miles since they are tied to an event (e.g., 100 mile challenge) and you'll need to re-enter your runs after you switch events.  You can enter them all in, or you can just enter one activity with your total miles to date.  To transfer events do the following:  Log in to RunSignUp --> Select Profile (top right) -->  Select the Manage Registration link in the Backyard Burn Virtual Trail Running Challenge section under upcoming races --> Select transfer event in the top navigation bar --> Select start transfer and follow the steps.
