Description

Beat the heat by staying near the ocean at the next San Diego Adventure Racing training event! Being held in nearby Dana Point, CA, you'll have a few race options to choose from based upon gear:

  1. "Traditional" kayak + trek + bike
  2. Kayak + trek, for those sans bike
  3. Trek + bike, for those sans boat

You can rent kayaks nearby at purewatersports.com, or just not sign up for that part of the race; you can also bring whatever boat you have, so if it's a SUP or a surfski, have at it.  Those with surfskis will have to get all of the water CPs, those with kayaks all but one, and those on SUPs all but two.

As always, navigation will be with the maps provided at the start line, and no GPS allowed.  Compasses encouraged but not required.

The start line location will be more or less at Baby Beach.  It's busy on the weekends, so give yourself plenty of time to park and get gear settled.  Please register EACH person coming so that we have enough maps and water.

Registration closes 7/31/25 at noon.

TIMELINE

Saturday, Baby Beach:

  • 8:00am: prepare boats and bikes (as applicable) at start line
  • 8:30am: maps handed out
  • 9:00am: start
  • 7:00pm: course closes
  • 6:00pm: pizza or something for the masses - come back if you finish early!

GEAR

  1. BYOBi (Bring Your Own Bike): gravel or mountain bike, and a bike lock
  2. BYOBo (Bring Your Own Boat): kayak / surfski / inflatable / foldable / SUP, whatever you got.
  3. Food, electrolytes, and water - recommend 0.5L per person per hour, minimum
  4. You will be back at the start location after kayaking, so you can have a race bin with resupplies
  5. Compass, of any type really - at least to help with coarse direction and not end up too disoriented.
