CanLake Ultras

October 10, 2026
Canandaigua, NY 14424 US

Race Description

New this year we are opening up the CanLake experience to relay teams of 5. The course will be the same as the 50 mile solo event, but cut into 5 easy-to-digest bits.

Teams will be responsible for their transportation. Additional team members are welcome to help drive, navigate, and crew for runners. Crew and runners are responsible for following the rules of the road and of the race, in particular, not providing aid outside of designated areas.

Registration

All members of the team should register separately. During the registration process, participants will be required to select a Group/Team.

Team Captain

If your team doesn't exist yet, congratulations you're the Team Captain! You'll be prompted to create a Group/Team Name and decide if your team will have a password. This is recommended, otherwise anyone will be able to join your team if there are available spaces.

After you create the team, you'll continue the registration process. The Team Captain is responsible for paying the full registration cost for everyone on the relay. It will be up to you to shake down team members for contributions.

Other Team Members

If you are joining a team, you have a few options. The Team Captain should have a custom RunSignup link that you can use to directly register. It will look something like: https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/RaceGroup-9999999?raceId=29687, where "9999999" will be a unique group number generated by RunSignup. Alternatively, you can just search or use the drop-down menu to find the team.

After joining a team, you'll continue the registration process. You will not be charged a regisration fee since it was paid by the Team Captain. Contact the Race Director if there are any issues.

Relay Leg Description

Each of the five legs has a distinct character tied to one of the essential elements of the CanLake Ultras.

Image

Leg 1 - Water (9.7 miles; 375 ft elev.) Most of this leg hugs the shoreline of the reason we're all here - Canandaigua Lake, the Chosen Spot. In particular, runners will be treated to a quiet early-morning stroll through Kershaw Park as the sun eases its way over the horizon and a gentle breeze drifts across the lake. Perhaps most important, this route is just about as flat as it gets on this course. A great little run to get the day started.

Image

Leg 2 - Hills (9.5 miles; 1,387 ft elev.) It doesn't matter if you got here by picking the short straw or your own masochistic tendencies; you're here now and Bopple Hill is happening. On the plus side, you will be treated to some of the best views on the course. We have all the picturesque rolling countryside sights that the Bristol Hills can deliver: Cows! Barns! Vineyards! Orchards!

Image

Leg 3 - Sunshine (12.3 miles; 525 ft elev.) On this leg you'll be on the sunny side of life in many ways. In the most literal way, you will be running down Sunnyside Road on your way to Sunnyside Aid Station. In a slightly less literal way, most of you will be running this stretch during the part of the day when the sun will be at it's most intense. But the 450 feet of net elevation loss on this leg will have you humming a happy tune the whole way.

Image

Leg 4 - Foliage (7.0 miles; 1,000 ft elev.) This is the leg for the leaf peepers of the group. The views around Vine Valley have all of the colors of the Fall season. But be warned that this leg may have you seeing red of a different nature as you tackle the climb out of Middlesex and then Bare Hill.

Image

Leg 5 - Darkness (11.2 miles; 565 ft elev.) This last leg will have you chasing the setting sun and the 7:30PM cutoff. But the darkenss also symbolizes the pain, doubt, and sacrifice that you've gone through to get to the finish line.
