Description

This year's race is Saturday, July 28th. Come down to Forest Park and join the fun. Chances are all your friends will be there.  Race starts at 7am!!!!

Packet pickup and a free pool party will be held at 310 N. Locust Friday, July 27th, 2018 beginning at 5:00 pm. The Ottawa Optimist Club will be serving hotdogs and refreshments. 

For our Kansas City area participants,  we will have a packet pickup on Thursday July 26th from 3pm to 7pm at The KC Running Company, 4760 W 135th St Leawood KS 66224.

Get ready for your child to have a great day in the 2nd Annual The Ottawa Optimist Club Midwest Iron Kid Triathlon for triathletes ages 3 to 17! We will have 5 different distances, depending on your child's age, in a safe and organized event that will match your child's experience and ability to a course that will ensure everyone crosses the finish line and has a great time. The race is the 3rd, and final leg, of the 2018 KC Tri Club triathlon series and points will be awarded. Kids can participate in one, two, or all three legs of the series. Medals for all finishers-
Early registration is through July 20th. So register soon!! After July 20th we cannot guarantee a t-shirt, but we will continue to take registrations through July 27th.
Please note that there are NO refunds or transfers of entries.

TriKids Mini Course: We welcome kids 3, 4 and 5 year olds to our TriKids Mini course Triathlon Division. Now everyone can get into the action with a 25 yard kiddie pool swim/walk, a .75 mile bike, and .25 run. This will be a non-competitive event with relaxed rules. Floats, water wings, tricycles, training wheels, and parents on the course for this portion of the event are all legal! The entry fee in the TriKids Mini Race Division is $25.00. After July 20th we cannot guarantee a t-shirt.  Membership in USA Triathlon not required for the TriKids Mini Race course.

USA Triathlon (Important): The remaining age group races will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon. All youth participants (except TriKids Mini Course) must be a member of USAT. A membership must be purchased in advance of the race. With the ONE TIME payment, youth triathletes will be eligible to compete in ALL triathlons for the remainder of their annual membership. Chip Timing: The MIDWEST IRON KID TRIATHLON will have chip timing. Chips are put on the athletes prior to them entering the pool area by our staff.

Participants registering before July 20th will receive a race t-shirt, goodie bag and finishers medal.  All participants will receive goodie bag and finishers medal. 

First time participants and parents are REQUIRED to attend a pre-race orientation session. The Pre Race Orientation/packet pick-up will be held in Forest Park just before our free pool party at the city pool in Ottawa, KS on Friday, July 27 at 5:00 p.m. The free pool party will start right after the Pre Race Orientation/packet pick-up. The Ottawa Optimist Club will be serving hotdogs and refreshments for all the race participants and their families.  For our Kansas City area participants,  we will have a packet pickup on Thursday July 26th from 3pm to 7pm at The KC Running Company, 4760 W 135th St Leawood KS 66224. Participants will receive a participant packet, event T-shirt, course information, and tips on various aspects of the event.

Age groups and distances:
TriKids Mini course, 3-5 years
swim/walk 25 yards, bike .75 miles, run .25 miles

Junior course 6-8 years
swim 50 yards, bike 1.5 miles, run .5 miles

Intermediate course 9-10 years
swim 100 yards, bike 3 miles, run .75 mile

Long course 11-14 years
swim 200 yards, bike 6 miles, run 1.5 miles

Elite course 15-17 years
swim 300 yards, bike 6 miles, run 2.25 miles

Midwest Youth Triathlon Series: You are invited to join the Midwest Youth Triathlon Series in which youth triathletes compete head-to-head for a chance to be crowned the Midwest Youth Triathlon Champion! Youth triathletes can earn points in the JCC Youth Triathlon, the TRiKC Longview Jr Triathlon, the Midwest Iron Kid Triathlon, and the grand finale JCPRD U Kids Triathlon. Both male and female competitors will earn points in their respective age groups of 7 and under, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. All Series competitors who compete in all four races in the Series will be entered into a raffle to win an iPod Touch. In addition, awards will be given for first, second, and third place in each of the following two-year age categories: 8 and under; 9-10; 11-12; and 13-14. Visit www.trikids.us for the details. It is FREE to be part of the Series and participants can enroll in the Series when they register for one of the individual triathlons or at www.trikids.us. Note: You do not need to be part of the series to participate in the JCC Youth Triathlon, the TRiKC Longview Jr Triathlon, the Midwest Iron Kid Triathlon, or the JCPRD UKids Triathlon.
