Mission: CARE Chest is a nonprofit agency serving Nevadans in need by providing medical resources free of charge.
In 1990, three local pharmacists Bill Kahl, Alex Rassuchine, and Craig Collins recognized a great need in our community. Many people were going without the medical equipment they needed because their insurance wouldn’t cover it or they could not afford to buy it out of pocket. They also recognized that others in the community didn’t know what to do with gently used medical equipment. Often, it was being stored or simply thrown away. By collecting, recycling, refurbishing, then loaning gently used equipment to people in need, CARE Chest was born.
Today our programs serve over 21,000 consumers per year. These programs include:
- Medical Equipment and Supplies
- Prescription Assistance
- Diabetic Supplies
- Supplemental Medical Nutrition
- Incontinence Protection
- Independent Living and CARE Loans
- Community Outreach - increasing access to services in underserved areas
After 34 years, CARE Chest has provided nearly 400,000 unique services to our friends and neighbors. With our services in higher demand than ever, we continue to provide our traditional programming. We offer curbside service in our parking lot, in larger drive-through distribution sites across the Reno/Sparks metro area, and in 28 rural communities throughout Northern Nevada in collaboration with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. In the coming year, we will be expanding our service area to Southern Nevada as well.
Our services help thousands of our fellow Nevadans every year. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact us today!
