See why runners keep coming back to the Elm Street Athletic Festival

"This race was beyond impactful and is a cherished memory I’ll carry with me forever."

My mom, Donna, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in June 2021, so by the time the Elm Street Run took place in May 2022, she had been battling brain cancer for nearly a year. By that time, she had lost the ability to walk unassisted. Her love of walking was one of my moms’ defining characteristics prior to brain cancer. She was an avid walker and it was something that brought her such joy in life! While she was unable to walk on her own at the event, she was able to take part in the 1 mile survivor race in a wheelchair, pushed by her adoring husband and surrounded by her “beautiful village of family and friends,” as she lovingly called them. The energy, love, community, and support that day was palpable. - Anonymous Finisher

I am forever grateful that she was able to attend the inaugural Elm Street Run before her passing just a few months later in July, and that she raised thousands of dollars to support a wonderful organization that makes a substantial impact in the brain tumor community. The smile on her face on race day was the biggest we’d seen in months, and the experience that day is something I will never forget." - Joslin Owens

Elm Street Athletic Festival is by far one of our favorite races! As a family run club we love how this race is geared to all ages, all levels, and supports an incredible cause. It’s a beautiful course in the heart of downtown Greensboro.  There is something for everyone at this race. Tons of fun for everyone. It’s an absolute highlight in our racing season!  Katie Page, Gate City Athletics Director
