Greenville Youth Triathlon Event Information

Labor Day-Monday, September 7th, 2026

 

Arrival Time: Arrive at the race site no later than 6:45 AM. RACE START – 8:00 AM.  Upon arrival, volunteers will be on hand to direct you to the transition area and to the pool.  The transition area will open at 6:00 AM and close at 7:30 AM (all swimmers should be lined up on the pool deck before the pre-race meeting at 7:45 AM.

 

Pre-Race Meeting: We will hold a pre-race briefing on the pool deck at 7:45 AM.  All swimmers and parents must be in the pool area by 7:45 AM, with swimmers lined up in their groups (swimmers aged 13-17 will start first, followed by swimmers aged 10-12, and then by swimmers aged 6-9 (swimmers in each group should line up with faster swimmers in the front to reduce bottlenecks during the swim).  KinderTry participants will line up after the regular Youth Triathlon participants.  Volunteers will be on hand to assist with lining up participants.

 

Parking: Parking will be in the Spaulding Farm Field across from the Spaulding Farm Clubhouse (located at 100 Spaulding Farm Road, Greenville, SC 29615).  Entry to the field is from Highway 14, and you will see cones / volunteers helping you park.  Once you park, there is a short walk across Spaulding Farm Road to the clubhouse, transition area, and pool.  There will be NO PARKING available elsewhere in the Spaulding Farm neighborhood.

 

Packet Pick-Up: Packet pick-up will take place in the Spaulding Farm Clubhouse from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 6th. The address of the Spaulding Farm Clubhouse is 100 Spaulding Farm Road, Greenville, SC 29615.  Race Day packet pick-up will be from 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM.  Packet pick-up on Sunday is highly encouraged.   

 

Transition Area: The Transition area will be in the pool parking lot. During packet pickup, we will answer questions about how to set up the transition area. This is very important and will help the children avoid confusion during the race. We will also have several volunteers in the transition area during the race to assist. 

 

              Transition Area Details:

·       No bike storage the night before the race 

·       Participants and Assigned Volunteers only in the transition area during the race 

·       Only Participants and One Parent may enter the transition area before the event. Parents (other than assigned volunteers) are not allowed to enter the transition area during the race

·       Transition area will close at 7:30 AM for the race and will re-open to parents/athletes after the final “KinderTry” participant begins the run portion of the event. If your child participates in the Youth Triathlon, please respect this rule and DO NOT attempt to enter the transition area to collect your child’s gear until after the KinderTry is complete. We do not need participants or parents in the transition area during the KinderTry, as that will create confusion and increase safety concerns, as KinderTry participants will be making their transition from swim to bike and bike to run during this time. Thanks for your adherence to this rule.

·       Numbered locations for your bike will be provided- Look for the location that includes your race number (example: Race #’s 1-6, 7-12, etc.). Bike racks will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for those wishing to rack their bikes.  There will be designated space in the transition area for KinderTry participants to place their bike and items. 

·       Only the race participant will be allowed to remove his/her bike from the Transition Area during the race, and one parent can assist after the KinderTry is complete.

·       Participants will not be allowed to mount their bikes in the Transition Area when starting the bike portion of the race (For safety purposes)-and will be made to dismount prior to entering the Transition Area when finishing the bike course. 

 

Timing: We will utilize RaceDay Mobile for timing.  Participants will not need to use a chip with this system.

 

Body Marking: All participants must have their race numbers written on their legs and shoulders (as well as their age marked on their calf) prior to the start of the race.  The body marking area will be beside the check-in area and will be available until 7:30 AM.  We will have markers on hand if parents would like to mark their child, as well as parent volunteers available to mark participants.

 

Swim

 

·       The Swim will be a time trial start, meaning that each participant will start in the pool (one at a time) at the direction of the race starter.

 

·       Greenville Youth Triathlon: Athletes aged 11-17 will start the race in the first wave.

·       Greenville Youth Triathlon: Athletes aged 6-10 will begin the swim after the 11-17 year olds have cleared the pool and complete the 100-yard course. Please review the course maps to ensure your child knows the layout of the swim. 

·       SWIM CAPS: Please wear your neighborhood or team swim team cap if you participate in a summer or year-round swimming program. 

·       Spectator areas on the pool deck will be clearly marked. PLEASE respect this policy to ensure the swim start goes as smoothly as possible, and the athletes are safe at all times. Volunteers will be on the pool deck to make sure spectators stay in the areas that are marked viewing the race. 

·       Floatation devices are not allowed during the swimming portion of the Youth Triathlon.

 

·       The race director reserves the right to deem any participant medically unfit to continue at any time.

Bike

 

·       Bike course maps are available in your race packets and on the event page.

 

·       HARD SHELL HELMETS MUST BE WORN and chin strap fastened anytime you are on your bike. This applies before and after the race. You may be disqualified for riding without a helmet. 

 

·       Shoes must be always worn while riding your bike.

 

·       ALL CYCLISTS SHOULD STAY TO THE RIGHT AND ALLOW FASTER CYCLISTS TO PASS ON THE LEFT.  Parents, please discuss this with your children.  We will cover this topic during the pre-race meeting, as well. 

 

·       All cyclists must dismount at the designated dismount point. 

 

·       Bike frame numbers will be provided and must be affixed to each bike. 

 

·       No phones, headphones, speakers, or any electronic devices are allowed on the bike course.

 

·       Volunteers and traffic control will be provided on the course.  However, the course is not closed to traffic.  Please be mindful of vehicles which may be on or adjacent to the course. 

 

·       All turns/intersections on the bike and run courses will be managed by volunteers and will be marked with golf carts. There will also be arrows on the road at all turns. Volunteers will assist participants with corners and direction changes. 

 

Run

 

·       The run will be a 1.3-mile loop.  Volunteers and traffic control will be provided on the course.  However, the course is not closed to traffic.  Please be mindful of vehicles which may be on or adjacent to the course. 

·       You must wear the race number that is provided ON THE FRONT OF YOUR SHIRT OR SHORTS.

·       Water stations: One at the beginning of the run and two more on the course- you are never more than 1/2 mile from an aid station. 

·       No headphones, IPOD, MP3, or earphones are to be used on the course. 

·       You must wear shoes on the run course. 

·       The race director reserves the right to deem any participant medically unfit to continue at any time.

 

Awards

 

·       There will be an official Greenville Youth Triathlon picture taken right after receiving their event medal at a designated location near the finish line.

·       Each participant will receive a finisher’s medal. The award presentation will begin immediately following the last finisher.  Awards will be earned for the top three finishers (male and female) in both races, as well as the top three age group finishers (male and female) for ages 6-9, 10-12, and 13-17. You must be present to collect your award.

·       Results: Results will be posted after the awards ceremony. Complete results will be posted on the race webpage by Tuesday, September 8th.

All four segments below start at the transition area in the Spaulding Farm clubhouse parking lot. Marshals will be along the bike and run courses to direct participants and assist with traffic safety.

Youth Triathlon – Bike Course

The course will be out-and-back from the Spaulding Farm clubhouse parking lot.  Roads used: Spaulding Farm Road; Buckland Way, Hunters Run, Ryans Run Court, Kelso Court, and Citation Way.

Turn-by-Turn Directions

      START: Exit the transition area in the clubhouse parking lot.

      Turn RIGHT onto Spaulding Farm Road.

      Continue straight on Spaulding Farm Road until Buckland Way.

      Turn LEFT onto Buckland Way

      Continue straight until Hunters Run.

      Turn LEFT onto Hunters Run.

      Continue straight until Ryans Run Court.

      Turn RIGHT onto Ryans Run Court.

      Continue straight until Kelso Court (on right side of the road).

      Turn RIGHT onto Kelso Court.

      Continue straight until turnaround point at Kelso Court cul de sac.

      After turnaround, continue straight until Ryans Run Court.

      Turn LEFT onto Ryans Run Court

      Continue straight until Citation Way

      Go around cone in middle of Citation Way and continue until Ryans Run

      Turn RIGHT onto Ryans Run

Course Notes

Course marshals will be posted at all turns to help ensure safety and to guide participants on turns. The course is roughly two miles to the turnaround point and two miles back to the finish. Cones will be in the road along the course, with turns clearly marked.  Always stay as far right on the road as possible for the entire bike portion of the race.  Bikers should be mindful of two-way bike traffic along the course. While police officers, volunteers, and traffic control devices will be present along the course, the road are open to traffic.

The course will be a loop, beginning in the Spaulding Farm Clubhouse parking lot (start will be at the Run Start exit of the transition area, and the finish will be at the Finish Line in front of the Spaulding Farm clubhouse); Roads used: sidewalk from the Clubhouse, Northbrook Way, Churchill Downs, and Spaulding Farm Road

Turn-by-Turn Directions

      START: Exit the transition area in the clubhouse parking lot.

      Turn LEFT and run on the sidewalk toward Northbrook Way.

      Turn LEFT onto Northbrook Way.

      AID STATION at the intersection of Northbrook Way & Churchill Downs.

      Turn LEFT onto Churchill Downs.

      Turn LEFT onto Spaulding Farm Road.

      Follow Spaulding Farm Road back toward the clubhouse.

      FINISH: End in front of the Spaulding Farm clubhouse.

Course Notes

This loop is run entirely on neighborhood sidewalks/roads. Runners will stay on sidewalk or in the road adjacent to the sidewalk for the duration of the course, (runners will run on the left side of the road once the sidewalk ends on Spaulding Farm Road.  While volunteers will be present along the course to direct runners at turns and traffic control cones will be present, the roads will be open to traffic.

      Continue straight until Old Tyler Court (first street on RIGHT)

      Turn RIGHT onto Old Tyler Court and go around turnaround point

      Turn LEFT onto Spaulding Farm Road and return to the clubhouse parking lot

      FINISH: End in front of the Spaulding Farm clubhouse.

Course Notes

Course marshals will be present to direct / help bikers.  The course is relatively flat, with one incline / decline on Spaulding Farm Road right before the turnaround point on Old Tyler Court.

      Turn LEFT and run on the sidewalk toward Northbrook Way.

      Loop around the cul-de-sac at the end of Northbrook Way and return to the clubhouse parking lot.

      FINISH: End in front of the Spaulding Farm clubhouse.
