⚡ Race Cancellation or Delay

⏱ Delay Protocol:
➤ The race start will be delayed 30 minutes if any of the following occur:-
🌩 Lightning strike within 8 miles

🌪 Tornado watch

🌧 Heavy rain that affects course safety

🚫 During the Race:
➤ If lightning occurs within 8 miles while the race is in progress:-
The course will close for 30 minutes.

Staff will direct runners to stop and find safe shelter away from trees and tall structures.

❌ Event Cancellation:
➤ The race will be canceled if any of the following are in effect:-
🌀 Tornado warning

⛈ Severe thunderstorm warning

⚡ Active lightning in the area

☀️ Severe Heat

🌡 Monitoring Threshold:
➤ A heat index of 100°F or higher triggers enhanced runner monitoring. -
🧑⚕️ Staff Training:
➤ All staff are trained to recognize heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
🔴 Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency)

Symptoms: confusion, fainting, lack of sweating, very high body temp

🚨 Action: Runner must stop immediately and be taken to onsite medical staff.
🟠 Heat Exhaustion (Moderate Risk)

Symptoms: dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea, weakness

🧊 Action: Runner will be encouraged to stop, provided with fluids, ice packs, and cold towels, and monitored until recovered.
📡 Weather Monitoring & Communication

🌦 Pre-Event Monitoring:
➤ Race staff monitor local weather conditions and maintain contact with local emergency officials beginning 48 hours prior to the event. -
🛰 Ongoing Updates:
➤ Monitoring continues throughout event day to track any developing severe weather threats such as lightning, tornado activity, or extreme heat. -
📞 Coordination:
➤ Race leadership will coordinate with local authorities and emergency management to determine any necessary delays, course closures, or cancellations.
