SIU is excited to host a new sprint distance triathlon: The King Tut Strut! Enjoy the beauty of SIU’s campus while testing your abilities at Swimming, Biking, and Running. Distances include a 0.2 mi swim in Campus Lake starting and ending at the Becker Pavilion “beachfront”; a 5 mi bike course hugging the south and west side of campus; and a 2 mi run on the trail around Campus Lake. This event is open to individuals and teams age 16+. Reserve your spot now at only $35 for individual entry or $90 for Team entry.

Time: 8am Start



            Enter Campus via Lincoln Drive off IL-51

            Take a Left on Douglas Drive

            First Parking lot on the left (on the hill) after Banterra Center


Participant Check-In:

Open at 6:45am

Location: Ralph E. Becker Pavilion- 1493 Douglas Dr, Carbondale, IL 62901

Pick Up Timing Bracelet- Needed for race placing.

.2-mile swim

5-mile bike
2-mile run


Race Start:

Time Trial Start

Start Line will start by Becker Pavilion. 

            Line will be formed by projected swim speed

8am start for first competitor

15 seconds between each competitor start



The swim is a triangular formation with an on-land time-trial start. Swimmers will enter the water at the Becker Pavilion ‘Beachfront.’ The water may be cold and murky. 

Please note:

1.      The lifeguards/rescue divers reserve the right to order any person out of the water at any time

a.       Lifeguards and Rescue divers are available to assist any racer in medical need. Please wave your arms in the air above water surface if in need.

                                                              i.      If you notice anyone in need, please notify aquatics staff

2.      Please ensure you find your appropriate place on start line. Swimmers will be arranged by projected swim speed



Bike / gear set up:

Bike Stands will be provided

Transition area will open to claim space at 7am

            There are no assigned spaces, first come first serve


1.      The bike route is a 5-mile circular course. 

a.       The course is on public road and is open to automobile traffic. Carbondale and Department of Public Safety Will provide traffic control for race day.

b.      There are nine (9) 90-degree turns, including 1 round-a-bout

c.       Please see bike course on provided course map in this packet. 

Return your Bike to your Original transition Space and On the Bike Rack



After returning your bike to the rack, exit the transition area for the run through the woods at the WEST end of the parking lot. The direction is clockwise around Campus Lake and you must stay on path. Follow all directions and do not cut corners.

Please note:

All Eligible competitors must finish the Run by proceeding through the finish chute. Non-registered and disqualified runners Must Not enter the chute.


Relay Teams:

Relay teams must pick up flagging tape upon check in. This tape must be held by all participants while competing and must be passed to begin next portion of the race. 

Biker will be staged at the Transition Area at beginning of the swim

Runner will be staged at the transition area after Biker has left transition



Spectators are NOT allowed on course. Spectators may congregate behind fenced areas (Transition, Start Finish)



Awards will be hosted at Becker Pavilion 30 minutes after the last competitor has completed course. 

Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both Men’s and Women’s division for ages:

19 and under

First Aid Station will be located at Becker Pavilion

Race will be held, regardless of weather conditions. No re-schedule is planned.

In the case of UNSAFE conditions, a start delay will be announced.
