This will be the fifth annual Rebecca's Run. We do this run to not only remember Rebecca Taylor, but to also remember ALL of the lives lost to fentanyl overdose/death.
As many of you know, Becca suffered from addiction for many years. Thankfully she became clean in the fall of 2019 and we spent some of our best months together. We will always have those happy memories.
According to the Department of Health, "fentanyl was involved in 90% of all deaths involving opioids. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid. A dose as small as three grains of rice can be lethal. Fentanyl is becoming more common in illicit drugs, even laced in other drugs like cocaine or methamphetamine."
Provisional data from CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics indicate there were an estimated 107,622 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2021, an increase of nearly 15% from the 93,655 deaths estimated in 2020.
DRUG TYPE -- Synthetic Opioids (Fentanyl)
(DEATHS 2021) -- 71, 238
(DEATHS 2020) -- 57,834
Our goal is to help people in addiction, people in recovery, and family members of those in addiction. To do this we will continue to raise money in Rebecca Taylor's name and donate it to different organizations.
Below is a website aimed to help prevent opioid overdose:
https://www.cdc.gov/overdose-prevention/about/fentanyl.html
This year, we are going to donate the money to: https://www.loyalk9rescue.org/
Loyal k9 Rescue is a small animal rescue shelter striving to connect animals to their forever home.
You can either sign up to run/walk the 5K race OR you can just donate on this page OR give money directly to Shawn Taylor or Rachel Voelkel. When you give money directly, there is no fee taken out.
ALL of the money donated by you, gets donated to the charity stated.
Thank you EVERYONE for your continued thoughts, help, donations, and just talking about Rebecca and keeping her memory alive.
