Description

Tri Santa Cruz is sold out.

We REALLY need volunteers to monitor the street corners for safety purposes!  If you can help with that please click on the volunteer link and select a Traffic Monitor position along West Cliff Drive - that is our absolute first priority to fill.  You can drive to your spot, bring a chair and a book, cheer for riders on the bike course!  Volunteering this year gets you a 50% discount code for next year's race!

The waiting list is now closed for all events.

  • All approved requests for waiting list have been released at this time.  We will not be opening the waiting list again.
  • Additional space availability will be dependent on people dropping out or deferring to next year.
  • We are totally out of our allocation of finisher medals and shirts.  If a shirt size is available at the time you register it will show up on the registration.  We cannot guarantee shirts or medals to waiting list people.  We usually do have people who don't show up so you will be able to check see if shirts are available at the end of the race.

In conjunction with the State of California re-opening this week we have a few changes to our regular event operations and previously published guidelines:
  • We will be doing regular age group starts - not a time trial start since our wave designations will not exceed gathering limits.
  • We will be racking athletes by age group and gender by event but not providing individually numbered bike racks.  We want to maintain some flexibility for social distancing and re-arrangement as required.
  • Awards are still planned as being a "Grab and Go" as soon as times are available so that we don't have large groups of people congregating in the plaza area.
  • All packet pickup will take place at Depot Park on Saturday, August 7 from noon to 6:00pm and on race morning before the starts beginning at 6:00am.
  • We are aligning with the state and CDC guidelines regarding wearing of masks.  Masks are optional for all fully vaccinated people. If you are not fully vaccinated we request that you wear a mask at all times indoor during packet pickup and whenever you cannot maintain adequate social distancing in transition and around groups.  You are not required to wear your mask while you are racing.

Come play at  of one of the most fun and scenic events on the west coast. This race has a sprint and international (Olympic) distance triathlon, with relays and aquabike categories for both races. Clydesdale and Athena registration categories are available.

There is a special, non-competitive Family & Friends wave for people who are new to triathlon or just want to race with family and friends regardless of age or gender.

Sheltered swim and flat bike and run course make this a perfect place for your first race or a PR. Voted one of the best late season triathlons in the country. The bike ride is a totally closed course and both the bike and run courses follow the coastline to create one of the most scenic races around!

Stick around and play for a day at the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk or visit the Surfer Museum or National Marine Sanctuary Center.

USAT Paratriathlon Friendly Course

The sprint distance course at Tri Santa Cruz is a designated paratriathlon friendly course.  In 2018 it was host to the USAT Paratriathlon Nationals prior to the Olympic Games.  This year we are proud to host the USAT Western Regional Paratriathlon Championship (even though the logo didn't change to 2021!).

Live Action From 2017 Race

Check out this cool drone footage shot by Jeff Tse from Tri Santa Cruz 2017.  The weather is perfect this time of year with no fog and calm waters in a protected bay.  Perfect for first timers and experienced athletes alike.   This can be your short course PR for either the sprint or the international (Olympic) distance race.
