Experience the magic and challenge of 16 miles of running and 2 miles of swimming broken up into 10 technical trail runs and 9 cold swims at Hanging Rock State Park in NC - in teams of two. SwimRun NC also offers stunning scenery, challenging waterfalls and a good amount of elevation gain and this very vertical SwimRun event is an ÖTILLÖ merit race. SwimRun NC is an event for very experienced and fit endurance athletes and should not be taken lightly. We in fact screen teams before we allow them into the race, and we expect to see detailed race results from the past 24 months. This is extremely difficult terrain and could possibly take place in very challenging conditions. This is not an individual event and teams of two can be either male/male, male/female or female/female and wetsuits in this race are mandatory. Fantastic images from the 2019 event can be found here and there, plus we have lots of 2018 images here and there to give you a better impression what to expect. We think great race photography is super important, and we always provide our starting athletes with amazing pictures.
Because of COVID19 we cancelled the 2020 race and moved about 80 teams to a new October date in 2021. The park however forced us because of still ongoing COVID19 worries to move the race to November 7, 2021. We tried to hold on to the late October date, but that will only be possible again starting in 2022.
We also have close to 10 teams that were accepted over the last few months and they are also guaranteed to get in. That will thus only leave about 30 team spots for the 2021 event and we will open the registration process on December 1, 2020, and as mentioned before we require teams to submit the previous 24 months pertinent race results. What do we expect? We want to see road half marathon speeds of sub 2 hours, and Half Ironman times sub 6 hours for example, plus teams ideally have technical trail running experience. This is not about elitism but about athlete safety. So if you think you have what it takes, apply and we promise you an amazing experience.
There is no cost to apply for a spot in our race, but once you are accepted you will have to pay $400 for the team to fully register. Usually we require teams to pay within 72 hours of being accepted, but this time we will watch and see how the COVID19 situation develops by the end of the year.
