The Run Oregon Virtual Challenge is an opportunity for participants to continue to stay healthy and active while achieving mileage goals "virtually".

What exactly is the Run Oregon Virtual Challenge? In a nutshell - runners from all over the world can run across the State of Oregon "virtually" between June 20 - December 31, 2020.

We've created multiple "challenges" to keep you running and staying healthy. Each challenge has a different theme and mileage to complete. At the completion of each chosen event, participants will earn #RUNOR Swag in the form of a custom race bib, race shirt/race tank and custom challenge medal!

Each of the four separate challenges represent different iconic parts of our great state including iconic Portland landmarks, waterways, parks and some of Oregon's greatest engineering feats! With each challenge comes a separate, fully customized completion medal representing that part of the state and completed challenge.

Looking for additional SWAG? Complete all four separate challenges to complete the Run Oregon Virtual Challenge. You did it! You've run the entire state! Your reward? A custom Cascadia Flag Running Buff and the 5th medal - the coveted Run Oregon Challenge Medal in the shape of our great state - Oregon!

Register now as a solo participant or as a team of 2+ participants (your team will work together to complete the mileage goal for your challenge) and start running, walking or biking to complete your Run Oregon goals!

(That's right, running walking 🏃 🏃‍♀️ and biking miles 🚴 🚴‍♀️ all count!)

Stay healthy and keep running Oregon... We got this!

Your 33 mile adventure will begin as you start your loop around Crater Lake, only a small part of the national park the features Crater Lake, the nation’s deepest lake with a depth of 1,943 fed entirely by rain and snow. Once a volcano standing over 12,000 feet tall, Crater Lake was formed after a series of eruptions caused the volcano to collapse, forming the lake, islands and other fun features. As you continue around Rim Dr. you’ll pass many different peaks, old growth forests and beautiful landscape. Crater Lake National Park might just be one of the most beautiful runs in the United States, enjoy the views!

Central Oregon Challenge - 110 Miles

Your Central Oregon journey starts at the base of the North Sister. From here, you’ll continue south on the Pacific Crest Trail past each of the sisters you’ll also see Broken Top in the distance as you pass the South Sister. Continuing south on the Pacific Crest Trail, you’ll loop around Cultus Lake before connecting to Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway. Running north, through forest land, you’ll pass the Deschutes River and many lakes including Lava Lake and Elk Lake. Looping east on the byway you’ll pass Devils Lake before you start your climb up to Mt. Bachelor. Once you’ve ascended Mt. Bachelor, your run will take you through the Deschutes National Forest. Tree lined streets and trails will stay with you for the next 10 miles before running through the recreational town of Sunriver. Once reaching Sunriver you’ll follow the Deschutes River for the homestretch to Bend. The last 20 miles, you’ll follow the river, running on Deschutes River Trail and neighborhood streets passing outdoor enthusiasts enjoying the rapids and lazy portions via inner tube. Finally - After 105 miles, we’ve reached Bend. The last 5 miles continues to follow the river, moving from side to side of the river passing world class breweries, restaurants and outdoor activities. Finally, we finish at Bend’s Riverbend Park, a great place for outdoor concerts, celebrations and more. After 100 miles, we aren’t sure how you celebrate but we will definitely be celebrating with a beer from one of Bend’s world famous craft breweries!

After this, the Broadway Bridge will be your final crossing, back to Portland’s West Side. From here, you’ll loop the city one last time, circumferencing Providence Park, home of the Timbers. Your final stretch will take you down Alder St, around Niketown before reaching the Portland Waterfront Trail again. From here, you’ll run north to the finish line. Your run finishes at SW 3rd Ave & SW Ankeny St where you’ll be treated to your favorite Voodoo Doughnut and a quick pic with the sign that created Portland’s unofficial motto, KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD!

As you run north along Hwy 101, you’ll pass through many coastal towns, numerous lakes, parks and more, all while running along the Pacific Ocean. 50 miles into your journey you’ll leave the coast and start running east along the Siuslaw River towards Eugene. HOW DO I LOG & TRACK MY MILES? (PDF Instructions at bottom of page)

You can Easily track your miles online! We have an interactive map that shows how far along the challenges you are. Tracking your mileage is super easy thanks to the awesome software from RunSignup. Once you do it a few times you'll get into the hang of it!

1. Login to RunSignup. We recommend letting it remember your username/password as you'll be here often!

2. Navigate to the Results page. We recommend bookmarking this page so you can find it quickly everyday.

3. Click "Submit Virtual Results"

4. You will be shown a calendar, select the current day or the day for which you are entering the miles.

5. A second box says "Distance in Miles", add the miles you ran that day.

6. Click "Submit your time"

Done!

RunSignup will automatically update your total distance and show you your total progression to date along the actual marathon course!

Tips and Tricks

1. It's best to enter your distance daily. Obviously life happens and you will perhaps not be able to every day, but staying consistent will make it easy so you're not having to enter a ton of data at once. Plus seeing that progression is very motivating!

2. For those of you who "double" (that is, run/walk twice or perhaps more in a day), simply total the mileage that day and submit one entry. E.g.,You run 3 miles in the morning and then another 4 that night. You should make one entry for 7 miles that day.

Once you have completed your run, wear your medal and celebrate! Share your successes with others. Send us your pics along your journey and tag us at @RunTheWestCoast #RunCali #RunOR #RunWA #RunTheWestCoast
