We had a great 20th year celebration, and are back and better than ever for year 21.
As ever, athletes will tackle the challenging North Ridge loop and once again, FINISH UP THAT MENACING FINAL HILL! But once you finish this grueling course, enjoy the delicious pancakes!
So join us for a fun, thrilling, and meaningful FRIGID 5 RACE on January 11th.
POST-RACE PANCAKE BREAKFAST
GCXC is proud to announce that Coach Audrey Burgoon will be cooking pancakes for all the participants and volunteers again at this year's race!
Head coach for the Urban Impact Run for A Reason Pittsburgh Marathon Team, Audrey is an amazing coach, volunteer, advocate, and runner. Every winter, you can find Coach Audrey cooking up amazing breakfasts at local group runs, raising money for charity. Over the past two years, Frigid 5 runners have been responsible for over $5000 for the Urban Impact Foundation.
We are so excited to partner with Coach Audrey and our friends from Urban Impact again this year!
GCXC Conquer the Cold Winter Challenge
Conquer the Cold is back and colder than ever in 2026
- 20th Annual Frigid 5 Miler - Sunday, January 11, 2026 at North Park
- 49th Annual Spring Thaw - Saturday, February 28, 2026 at North Park
- 25th Annual Sean T. Smith Memorial Just A Short Run - Saturday, March 28, 2026
This unique challenge is not for the faint of heart. With the infamous Frigid 5 final hill; the Spring Thaw winter temps, and JASR’s famous mile 1 climb, this challenge will surely bring out the best in runners of all abilities!
All participants who complete the challenge will:
- Receive an exclusive, commemorative GCXC “Conquer the Cold” Winter Challenge finishers medal at Just A Short Run on March 28, 2026.
- Medal reveal coming soon!
- Receive all individual race SWAG from Frigid 5, Spring Thaw, and Just A Short Run

The challenge is simple: sign up for all 3 events at once, pick your distances at each race, and you are registered for the challenge. There are 16 different combinations to choose from. Eat your heart out Burger King! Our runners can have it their way.
NOTE: YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THE CHALLENGE USING THE CHALLENGE BUNDLE TILE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CHALLENGE PERKS. Registering for each race separately does not qualify as the challenge.
URBAN IMPACT FOUNDATION
Urban Impact was founded in 1995 by Pastor Ed and Tammy Glover after they felt a calling to reach youth in their neighborhood — the North Side of Pittsburgh. Over the past 25 years, they have grown to a staff of 35+ missionaries who all reside on the North Side and run programs in Athletics, Education, Performing Arts, and Options.
