The Lake to Lake 10k was founded in 1977 by Harold Walker who owned the Athletic Attic and John Scimone, founder of the Lakeland Runners Club. 

The race record belongs to Tom Nohilly of Gainesville, who finished the 1991 Lake to Lake 10K in 29:53. Shelly Steely, also of Gainesville, holds the female record, 33:48, set in 1988.
