What are we Fundraising For?
This year's Sensory Walk & 5K funds and registrations money is going to the Adopt a Home Fundraiser for Systems Unlimited: Supporting Safe and Welcoming Homes for People with Disabilities. The two houses we are funding, support people living with developmental disabilities, and we want to make repairs to both homes that need essential assistance.
Iowa City Home:
This is a home of three men that have a variety of interests, while living in an aging house, worn windows, and a deteriorating driveway. These all are in need of attention so the house can remain safe and welcoming for the residences, and truly theirs.
Marion Home:
Equally important, this 1980s ranch home houses four men that are high energy and is always having a good time with one another. Each person brings something unique to the house. This house needs new siding, safer windows, and improvements so it can remain the safe, comfortable home these four men deserve.
Last years Giving Tree Fund:
In the previous year, our funds and registrations from the Sensory Walk & 5K went towards the Giving Tree Fund. This fund helped people of all ages and abilities feel the holiday season all year. It helped purchase 120 gifts and food gift cards for those we serve who don’t have family or friends to celebrate with during the holidays. It also supported the purchase of a special holiday meal for many. Any leftover money from the holiday season was put towards buying needed clothing and household items for those that are unable to afford them throughout the year.
