The 5th Annual Run-Up-To Juneteenth 5K Run/1 Mile Walk!
Get ready to celebrate AFRAM and run for a great cause! Break out the tube socks. Grab your crew. We’re taking it back to 1976 and bringing the community run home to Druid Hill Park.
Get ready, Baltimore! Held the weekend before the AFRAM Festival, the Run Up to Juneteenth (RUTJ) 5K/1-Mile is proud to serve as the official kick-off to AFRAM’s 50th Anniversary—a celebration of culture, history, unity, and joy in our city. This year, we’re moving the race to Druid Hill Park, returning to AFRAM’s original routes and honoring the legacy of the community runs that were part of the festival years ago. And because AFRAM began in 1976, we’re inviting you to throw it back—tube socks, headbands, short shorts, retro vibes and all! Want to go full disco-meets-track-star? We’re here for it. Prefer your usual race-day gear? Perfect. We’ll be awarding a prize for Best 1976 Throwback Outfit, so have fun with it! Most importantly, come ready to move and support SEED students on their journey to college. Let’s make this golden anniversary unforgettable. Proceeds from the Run Up to Juneteenth benefit The SEED School of Maryland's College Transition & Success Program; learn more at seedschoolmd.org.

Juneteenth Significance
A combination of the words “June” and “19th” — Juneteenth commemorates the announcement of emancipation of enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
Baltimore City proudly celebrates Juneteenth each year with a weeklong series of special events, starting with the Run Up To Juneteenth and culminating with AFRAM, one of the East Coast's largest African American festivals (aframbaltimore.com).
