Asheville Off Road Series at Biltmore Estate

Sun September 20, 2020 Asheville, NC 28806 US Directions

The 2020 Asheville Off Road Series is Cancelled

The Asheville Off Road Series at Biltmore Estate is a unique, challenging event that has grown into a local and regional favorite over the years. Our 2019 event was our biggest event to date, and we were anticipating an even bigger number in 2020. We were looking forward to having another day of Gravel Grinder, 10K and Duathlon events, and sharing the excitement of racing with our participants.

However, the world had other plans...

We shut down registration for the 2020 Asheville Off Road Series in March due to COVID-19, and since that time we have been working behind the scenes with Biltmore Estate to make the event possible in some capacity. When we received the go-ahead last week from Biltmore Estate, we sent out a survey to all of our participants to gauge community interest, and we noted that there would be some major changes to the event, such as the deletion of the Duathlon, staggered start times, wave starts, and other safety guidelines we would put in place to encourage social distancing.

Although the response to the survey was mostly positive and encouraging, we did not feel there were enough responses to ensure we would have the necessary number of participants at this year’s event.

Therefore, it is with heavy hearts that we are foregoing the 2020 Asheville Off Road Series this year and will instead plan for a completely epic event in 2021. With 40 percent of our participants not feeling comfortable at this time to attend an in-person event — AND with September being saturated with scheduled events already — we have opted to cancel the 2020 event completely. We are taking the safety of our participants very seriously, and although we could have this event in a safe and socially distanced way, given the survey results it would not be a viable option for our iDaph team.

We are offering our current registrants the option to defer their registration to the 2021 event, to donate their registration costs to the iDream Athlete's Foundation, or to receive a refund.

Registrants must submit a formal decision by August 31st at midnight by selecting one of the options below. All responses must be submitted using the options below, and any other form of response (phone calls, emails, Facebook comments, etc) will be directed back to this page to make a selection. If you do not respond by August 31st at midnight, your registrations cost will automatically be donated to the iDream Athlete's Foundation.

Here Are Your Options:

If you select this option, we will reach out to you after the decision deadline date with a coupon code which will allow you to register for free for the 2021 event.

Note: We are not capable of automatically deferring you to 2021 - you'll be required to use your custom comp code to re-register (for free).

iDream Athletes Foundation Mission:

It is the mission, duty and purpose of iDream Athletes Foundation to provide opportunities for Western North Carolina youth and adults who are unable to pay for sporting event fees, coaching, travel expenses and/or equipment to train for and/or participate in our WNC sporting events. This tax-exempt non-profit provides needs-based scholarships. The amounts to be gifted are determined on a case-by-case basis through a criteria-selection process.

In addition, we will assist in fueling the growth for local running, cycling and multi-sport champions, teams, clubs, locally owned stores and communities in Western North Carolina by providing resource and financial support when conducting our key activities.

We understand and hope you can join us in 2021!

Note: We cannot refund the fees charged by the registration site or any donations. Refunds will be returned to your credit card via RunSignup within 2-3 weeks following August 31st.

Description

Asheville Duathlon, 10k off-road Run, & Gravel Grinder Bike Events (20, 40 or 60 mile)

Biltmore Estate - Asheville, NC
Sunday, September 20th, 2020

For the French aristocrat in all of us, this rough-cut, crown-emerald of a race sweeps participants through a mystical journey, back to a time when the Estate might have resembled a 15th century countryside plantation, complete with a game-stocked forest, working vineyards, and a cold mountain river rushing by. Racers on this day will be lords and ladies of the land they claim under fast plowing feet & spokes.

The Asheville Off Road Series of multi-sport events at Biltmore Estate consists of 3 main events - each come with various privileges for participation.

All three of the off road events in September are entirely on the historic grounds of the Biltmore Estate property. The Asheville Duathlon and Gravel Grinder events both get to explore the west side of Biltmore Estate, which is typically off-limits to guests. Join endurance athletes of all abilities and step to the start line, hearts booming in anticipation, to challenge mind and body while competing in the annual multi-sport event series held at Biltmore Estate.

Event is limited to 750 spots. We expect the event to sell out prior to race day! Sign up as an individual, or a 2—3 person relay team for the AVL Duathlon.

[NOTE: The backup date for this event is September 27th, 2020]

ASHEVILLE DUATHLON

NOTICE: The 2020 course is subject to change.

5k road run, 13.25 mile off road bike ride followed by a final 5k pack dirt/single track off road run. The bike course is non-technical riding on the west side of the estate, an area off limits to regular visitors! 2-3 person relay options are available. Kids can team up with an adult for the relay option. Bike rider for the team option must be 10 yrs old to participant. Runner may be younger than 10.

GRAVEL GRINDER EVENTS

The Asheville Gravel Grinder Bike Events come packed with something for every type of rider, a 20, 40 or 60 mile option. Whether you are a seasoned athlete, a weekend warrior or scenery seeking rider, these events are for you! The Gravel Grinder Bike events are the only bike events at the estate that allows the participant to access the front of Biltmore House on their bike.

10K OFF ROAD RUN

The Asheville 10k Run at Biltmore features an off-road 10k run, featuring some paved, packed dirt and trail that takes the runner to a marvelous adventure with new views of the Biltmore House.

We encourage athletes of all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels compete in our events and prove that when you put your mind to something, anything is possible. However, for our competitive participants, we do offer overall and age group awards for each of the events.

New for 2020: Additional Timing Checkpoint

To ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of our timing system, a timing checkpoint will be added onto the west side of the Estate (where the Gravel Grinder and Duathlon bike laps take place). Participants will still be responsible for keeping track of their own laps, but this new checkpoint will eliminate any room for error when it comes time for the awards ceremony.
