It is with a heavy heart that we announce this race is cancelled for 2020.
We know that you have probably received several of these messages over the past month, and it gives us no pleasure to be writing another one ourselves. Due to the affects of COVID-19 we will be unable to produce the TriTown Sprint Distance Triathlon in 2020. There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into producing this event and unfortunately after talks with the City of Greensboro this week, they will not be reopening the lakes/marinas in time for this event. It also does not look like the state will be lifting any restrictions on large in-person gatherings. We are unfortunately not able to find another date that works for this event in 2020. We hate to have to take another event off the calendar, but we do not have another choice at this time. So here are the options we are offering to currently registered participants:
Athletes signed up must provide a respond by 4/29 with which option they would like. Athletes who do not respond by that date will automatically be deferred to the 2021 event.
Athletes: Update 4/22/2020 Due to the ongoing shutdowns from the Coronoa Virus the lakes will not be opened up or staffed in time for Tritown to happen in 2020. We regrettably are going to have to cancel this event. We hope to see everyone for Tritown in 2021.
In 2020 due to new Lake regulations on our events The Tritown event will take place in the spring instead of the fall. This years race will be a sprint distance triathlon.
In the past few years Greensboro has truly become a Triathlon Town with more and more multisport athletes showing up. Our city deserves a top-notch multisport event and Lake Townsend provides the perfect venue. We are excited to have a great spring sprint triathlon for everyone to enjoy!
Come out and swim 750 meters in Lake Townsend, Bike 12.5 miles on the rolling hills northeast of the lake and run a 5K on the shaded streets of Bryan Park!
750 meter swim * 12.5 Mile Bike * 3.1 mile Run
Parking will be available at the many parking lots around Lake Townsend Marina and Bryan Park.
