In 2021 this race will have a morning On-Road Triathlon and Duathlon and an afternoon Trail Triathlon. Both races will accumulate points towards the Trivium Multisport Series! Not only will this make for more space for each race, it will also give people a chance to compete in both races for our Double Trouble prizes!
If you have not had the chance to race with us at Lake Brandt Marina, this is an amazing race venue. Check out the different race descriptions below for more details.
At Nat Greene's Revenge, we have 3 events you can sign up for:
Motus Off Road Triathlon: This is a sprint triathlon swimming 800 meters, then mountain biking the trails around Lake Brandt for 14.5 miles, and finishing with a tough 5K running on the Nat Greene Trail. Lake Brandt is usually extremely calm water and a great open water swim. The afternoon swim will allow for easy sighting. Athletes will bike on Greensboro's iconic Wild Turkey and Owls Roost trails and then finish by running on Nat Greene's Trail!
*if trails are closed on race day due to wet conditions, racers will have option to switch to road race or off-road aquathon
On Road Triathlon: A sprint triathlon swimming 800 meters, then cycling 12.5 miles on the rolling hills outside of Lake Brandt Marina, and finishing with 3.25 miles of road running in the adjoining neighborhood. Water temps race morning should be wetsuit legal, but not freezing cold.
Duathlon: Duathletes will run 2 miles in the neighborhood adjacent to the marina, jump on their bikes for 12.5 road miles of cycling on the same bike course as our triathletes, and then they will run 3.25 miles on the road to finish the race!
As the rain continues to fall it has become apparent that there will not be enough drying time to allow us to host our race both safely and in good conscience without destroying some of the best mountain bike trails in the triad. With the forecast calling for nearly an inch of rain before the race, the trails just won't have time to dry with the cool weather and overcast skies on Saturday.
We have been fortunate in all previous years of this race to have never been in this position, but unfortunately this year we have to make the tough call to switch this event to an Aquathon. The race will be an 800m swim followed by a 5.2 mile trail run. There will be aid at the halfway point.
The results will count towards the MOTUS championship. Athletes also have the option to switch to the morning road triathlon.
Current participants, please check your email for these details and details about switching to the morning section, if you prefer one of the morning options.
The morning sections will happen as scheduled, as the rain does not impact the road events.
Again, we are so sorry for the news with this final decision. This is the first year where we had to make this decision with riding off-road: our main goal will always be your safety and preserving the condition of the trails that we all love.
We are still looking forward to an AWESOME DAY OF RACING! Thank you all for your support and understanding. Let’s have some fun on Saturday!
