The race begins with an open-ocean swim off iconic Second Beach. Athletes will experience true coastal conditions in a clearly marked course with excellent sightlines and shoreline support.
Bike — 11.2 Miles | 565 ft Elevation Gain
The bike leg rolls through the scenic farmland of Middletown, featuring quiet roads, open views, and gentle elevation changes that reward steady effort without being overly technical.
Run — 3.3 Miles | 47 ft Elevation Gain
The run is the signature piece of the race, taking athletes out toward Sachuest Point and looping around the reservoir near Third Beach and Hanging Rock Road. This section winds entirely through protected nature preserve areas, offering a rare and beautiful racing environment surrounded by open land, water, and coastal views.
Supporting Race4Chase
Blue Horizon Racing is proud to partner with the Newport County YMCA to support the Race4Chase Kid's Triathlon Program at the Second Beach Sprint Triathlon. This incredible six-week summer program introduces kids aged 6 to 12 to swimming, cycling, and running in a safe, fun, and non-competitive environment — giving young athletes the tools, coaching, and confidence to call themselves triathletes.
The program culminates in a Youth Triathlon on Sunday, August 10th at Fort Adams in Newport, RI, where all Race4Chase participants come together to celebrate their hard work and cross a finish line of their own. We believe in building the next generation of endurance athletes right here in our community, and there is no better place to start than our local YMCA!
