4/1/2020 Email to All Registered Athletes:
As you know we have been working to figure out how to handle the cancellation of the Parris Island Triathlon this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. With so many events being cancelled we are taking each event individually and considering many factors in making the decision on how to best work with you and make sure we aren't putting ourselves in a economic position from which we can't recover. Unfortunately, our initial hope of rescheduling the 2020 event date is simply not possible.
With that said, for everyone registered in the 2020 event, we are offering you the ability to transfer your entry into any of the following events at a 50% credit based on your payment made into the Parris Island event. The complete list of events is:
Andy's Race - August 9, 2020 (Greenville, SC)
Clemson Triathlon - July 25, 2020 (Clemson, SC)
Prisma Half Marathon - February 27, 2021 (Greenville, SC)
SC Half / Quarter - October 24, 2020 (Greenwood, SC)
Dam Triathlon - October 10, 2020 (Lexington, SC)
Tri the Swamp Rabbit - July 18, 2020 (Greenville, SC)
TriSumter - September 12, 2020 (Sumter, SC)
Middle Tyger Triathlon - September 5, 2020 (Duncan, SC)
Hartness Half Marathon - November 14, 2020 (Greenville, SC)
Ramblin Rose Greenville - June 21, 2020 (Greenville, SC)
A few notes about this plan:
The deadline to make any changes is September 30, 2020. You have until that time to use your race transfer. After this time the transfer system will shut off.
All changes must be done through your RunSignUp profile used to register. Once you log in follows these steps: Navigate to Profile > Upcoming Events > Select Parris Island 2020 (12/31/2020) > Manage Registration > Transfer To Another Race.
This option only applies to those that registered and paid for the 2020 Parris Island Triathlon. If you used a coupon code for a complimentary entry, you will need to use the same coupon code to register for another 2020 SCTS race.
If you are unsure if you want to race a particular race this year, or if you are concerned a race you want to race will be cancelled, we have eliminated all deferment fees for future 2020 events. Meaning if you are entered into any future event that is cancelled because of the pandemic you will be allowed to defer into 2021 for no additional fee and at 100% credit.
We understand this plan is not perfect, and it is the best plan we can manage right now. Even though the event has a very clear no refunds policy, we feel we have to do something to help you receive some value for the money you paid for this event. If for any reason this plan is simply unacceptable to you, please email me directly at email@example.com and we will figure something out for your individual circumstance.
Again, thank you for choosing to be part of our race series. We are looking forward to getting back to racing and seeing you all very soon.
SWIM: 500 Meters (Pool)
BIKE: 10 Miles
RUN: 5 Kilometers
Parris Island starts the South Carolina Triathlon Series season in a big way. Triathletes from all over the nation come to test their early season training at the flat and fast course.
The 500 meter swim is held in the Parris Island Military Combat Training pool. In order to keep the marines warm during hours of water training the water temperature is in the mid 80's. Swimmers will begin one at a time every 10 seconds swimming down and back in each lane before changing lanes. A simple rule of thumb here is that all lane changes are made at the same side of the pool where you begin.
The bike is a fast 10 mile course. Depending on the wind you may find a few sections of headwind and a few sections of tail wind. Either way this is a great chance to see just how fast you can go on a bike.
The run course also is flat and fast. A very simple out and back 5K course. All turns are marked on the pavement. The course is mostly closed to traffic.
For the majority of the marines in the US as well as the SCTS Triathletes, Parris Island truly is "Where it all Begins".
