Cul-de-sac 5K Series Competition 2023

The series competition for the in-person races of the 2023 Cul-de-sac 5K Series is designed to encourage competitive running and racing for a place among runners in 5-year age groups over this 3-race series.

Age-group placement for the series competition is based on the runner’s age on July 3, 2023.

For each in-person 5K race, all finishers in each age group will be awarded points. The top 9 finishers in each age group will receive points as follows:

  • 1st - 10; 2nd - 9; 3rd - 8; 4th - 7; 5th - 6; 6th - 5; 7th - 4; 8th - 3; 9th - 2
  • All other finishers receive one participation point.

Runners must run and finish all three in-person 5K races to be eligible for awards based on the series competition points. There will be awards for the top three male and top three female runners overall and the top male and top female masters runners. There also will be awards for the top male and female runners in each 5-year age group. Any point ties for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place within overall, masters, and age-group competitions will be resolved by assigning higher standing to the runner with the lower (faster) cumulative chip times for the three races.

There will be an awards ceremony after the race on July 17.

The race director and the series competition scorer reserve the right to revise these rules in the case of race cancellation or postponement based on severe weather or other unexpected circumstances.

If you register for any virtual races and report your time for the race, you will receive one race participation point. No overall or age-group place points will be awarded to virtual race participants.

Contact grandprix@rrrc.org if you have questions.

Weather-related changes

The race director may change the requirements for running any of the Cul-de-sac 5K races.

If there are severe weather conditions in the Richmond area or if the dew point is projected to be 80°F or above at the designated start time, the race director may extend or otherwise alter the window for completing your 5K run or walk. Registered participants will receive an email announcing any changes by 12:00 PM on race day, including any changes to the time window for submitting finishing times.
