Details

The gravel/grass spaces nearest the transition area are for triathletes only and should be used first. After that, direct vehicles to the first (4) northernmost rows of parking spaces in front of Sharky's Restaurant, and the grass spaces in their lot that face Harbor Drive. Overlow grass/dirt parking, although limited, is available across the street from Sharky's on the eastern side of Harbor Drive. Alert cars to watch for pedestrians and watch for triathletes crossing traffic lanes with their bikes. Make sure to have safety vests, flags and flashlights with fresh batteries when you arrive.

Triathletes must be members of USAT in order to compete. If they do not provide proof of membership along with a picture ID, then they must pruchase a one-day USAT membership for $15.00. Once purchased, place wrist band on triathletes wrist and send them onto packet pick-up table. Forms, pens and petty cash bag necessary.

Timing Chips

Details

Look for wrist band denoting 2019 USAT membership. Athlete must have BIB with number to confirm. Place timing chip/band around triathlete's LEFT ankle (so as not to interfere with bike chain/pedal). Advise triathlete regarding chip removal at finish line and send them on to Body Marking Area.

Details

Look for wrist band denoting USAT membership. Athlete must have BIB with number to confirm. Using a permanent marker, write the triathlete's BIB # on both of their arms near the bicep, and their age on the back of their right calf. Direct them to the transition area to drop off their bikes.

Details

In the next to the last row of parking spaces at south end of Sharky's parking lot. Keep coolers well stocked and pass out water as needed/requested. Pick up discarded water bottle and throw them away in nearby recycling receptacles. NOTE- please be aware of other volunteers (medals, timing chips) working in this area and be careful not to impede runners coming across the finish line.

#1-Swim In

Details

Go to North of Pavilion area, where swimmers will start. Look for and identify turtle nests to be avoided by ALL. As participants/spectators come on to the beach, verbally remind them to watch out for the turtle nests. Ask swimmers to line up and prepare to enter water according to the "WAVE" they are in (i.e. men under 45 yrs of age go first, men over 45 second etc.) As the waves begin, watch closely for anyone in distress. There will be lifeguards along the beach and out in the water. Should you see anyhone in trouble, bring it to the lifeguard's attention.

#2-Swim Out

Watch for swimmers coming out of the water. Alert them of sandy incline (if present) as normally the morning sun will be right in their eyes. Direct them toward the parking lot and spotter position #3. Keep spectators off to the side. Watch out for turtle nests!!

#3- Beach/Parking Lot Edge

Alert swimmers of curb step down. Direct them to kiddie pool and spotter postion #4 at bridge which will take them over the grass swale to the transition area. After all swimmers are out of the water, move south approximately 20 yrds to direct runners along the road in front of Sharky's.

#4-Bridge

Details

On beach (west) side of bridge first, direct swimmers to the transition area. Once all swimmers have passed over bridge, go to the other (east) side of the bridge and direct runners to loop around north end of the parking lot, and head south towards spotter postion #3 along the road in front of Sharky's.

#5-Transition Area/ Corral

Details

Direct swimmers in/bikers out, bikers in/runers out. Specifically, direct swimmers in over the timing mat (north end), bikers out (south end) and bikers in (south end). Direct runners out (north end) as they come back after the bike portion. NOTE- There will be an area set up to the NE corner just outside of the T.A. where RELAY participants will change out and hand over the timing chips to the next participant. They need to do this at location and NOT inside the T.A.

Cyclists walk/run their bikes out to the marked mount line and then get on theri bikes- NOT BEFORE. Make a note of those who violate this rule and alert the race director. Direct cyclists towards spotter position #7 where they will turn right onto Harbor Drive. NOTE to cyclists. Alert them when returning after 3 laps, they need to GET OFF the bike at the dismount line and walk/run over the timing mat into the T.A.

Cyclists who have completed the required (3) three laps will be turning right off Harbor Drive towards you. YELL to them to dismount at the marked dosmount line and run/walk their bikes over the timing mat into the transition area to start their run.

This is the sharp RIGHT sidewalk turn for runners onto Harbor Dr. Toward Caspersen Beach. Alert them to "stay on sidewalk". Runners will also RE-ENTER MBP at this spot. There will be cones separating the bike/run lanes and spotter #9a will be there as well. Direct incoming runners to stay left of the cones AWAY from cyclists who may still be on the right side of the cones.

Stand in parking lot closest to the pond in front of the sidewalk. Runners will be running directly at you as they enter park off Harbor Dr. Direct them to the right (your left) and advise them to follow other spotters (#15a, #15b) all the way to the end of the parking lot.

Standing at the end of the parking lot in front of the rest rooms, direct runners to carefully run onto the sidewalk between the parking curbs and exit the park towards spotter #16. NOTE- Cones and/or yellow tape will be set up to form a chute to guide the runners.

Runners will be running through the parking lot in front of Sharky's towards you. Direct them onto the sidewalk that leads into Maxine Barritt Park. There will be yellow tape and/or cones set up as a "run chute" for them to follow. Keep spectators off to the side and out of the runners way.
