Cunard Aid Station High Priority

June 27, 2026

Details

Cunard is where the bike leg ends, the river looms large, and athletes start questioning some life choices, in a good way. This aid station is all about fast refuels, clear direction, and getting racers pointed downstream with full bottles and some confidence
left in the tank. Volunteers will handle hydration and nutrition, keep things moving, and bring the hype
as athletes roll in hot and head toward the river. You’ll also help stage drop bags, lay out boats, and load mountain bikes into trucks for the ride back to town. It’s organized chaos, it matters a lot, and it’s a front-row seat to the transition from dirt to whitewater.

Kaymoor Aid Station High Priority

June 27, 2026

Details

Kaymoor is a prime vantage point and one of the few places athletes will pass twice, once on the bike and again deep into the run when things start getting real. This station runs all day and covers two distinct waves of suffering. Volunteers can choose a morning shift (mountain bikes flying through) or an afternoon shift (runners grinding back through the course). Duties include hydration, nutrition, quick check-ins, and keeping the station dialed so athletes can grab what they need and keep moving. If you like seeing people at both their most confident and most cooked, this is your spot. Stay all day or choose one of our two time slots.

Fayette Station Aid Station High Priority

June 27, 2026

Details

This is a major moment in the race. Athletes come off the river soaked, smiling (or not), change gears fast, and head straight into a serious trail run. The goal here is smooth transitions, clear flow, and zero bottlenecks. Volunteers will help organize drop bags, hand out hydration and nutrition, and keep athletes moving efficiently from boats to shoes to trail. You’ll also assist with loading kayaks, rafts, and river gear into trucks for transport. It’s busy, physical, and critical to the race, perfect if you like controlled chaos and high energy.

Pre-Race Meeting & Check-In on Friday High Priority

June 26, 2026

Details

This is where race weekend officially begins. Athletes roll in excited, nervous, and full of questions. Your job is to get them checked in, pointed in the right direction, and feeling ready to send it the next day. Volunteers will help with registration, packet pickup, prize table organization, and loading kayaks and drop bags for race logistics. It’s fast-paced but straightforward and you’ll hear every version of “I’m excited but also mildly terrified” at least once.

Race Day Morning Check-In High Priority

June 27, 2026

Details

This role covers the stragglers, the travelers, and the “I’ll handle it in the morning” crowd. It’s all about efficiency and clarity so race morning stays calm and on schedule. Volunteers will check athletes in, answer basic questions, and direct them to the correct staging and start areas. If you’re organized, calm under pressure, and good at pointing people where they need to go without drama, this is an important and critical role.

Finish Line High Priority

June 27, 2026

Details

This is where it all comes together. Muddy bikes, wet boats, tired legs, big smiles, and the kind of relief you only get after earning it the hard way. Volunteers will help organize returning mountain bikes, boats, and drop bags while cheering athletes across the line and helping them get sorted post-race. High energy encouraged. This is the victory lap for racers and volunteers alike.

River Safety High Priority

June 27, 2026

Details

River Safety Volunteers are the quiet professionals making the river leg safer for everyone. These positions are for experienced, qualified paddlers and boaters who know the New River and are comfortable managing real whitewater scenarios. Volunteers will staff key safety locations, monitor athlete progress, and assist if needed. This is not a spectator role—it’s hands-on, serious work that supports a smooth, professional race environment on Class III–IV water. Experience matters, and so does good judgment.
