Dear St. Anthony’s Triathlete,
We hope that you’re staying safe and healthy. We wanted to give you an update on our plans for the 2020 St. Anthony’s Olympic and Sprint Triathlons and the Meek and Mighty Triathlon. We appreciate your patience during this unprecedented time. We are working diligently to provide a quality race for our athletes and the community.
St. Anthony’s Hospital and BayCare are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19. We are extremely proud of and grateful for all the hard work of our physicians, nurses, and team members. We are all working together to help the community and our patients through this pandemic.
Regarding the postponement of the 2020 St. Anthony’s Triathlon, we currently are working with the city of St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Police Department and the St. Petersburg Special Events Department to find an alternate date for our event. We hope to reschedule the race sometime in the early fall. Once we have the dates confirmed for a new race weekend, we will provide our athletes with all of the details.
In the meantime, we hope that everyone is practicing social distancing and continuing to stay healthy and active. We appreciate your patience and please stay safe!
The health and well-being of our athletes and volunteers are of the utmost importance to the St. Anthony’s Triathlon. With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended canceling or postponing large events for eight weeks. As such, the 37th St. Anthony’s Triathlon, scheduled for April 24-26, is postponed.
We are working with the city of St. Petersburg and USA Triathlon (USAT) to find a date later this year.
If we are unable to host the event this year, we will provide information about refunds or registration deferment to a future race. We also will work with our vendors who were scheduled to be at our three-day Sports & Fitness Expo.
We appreciate the support and dedication of our athletes and volunteers who have made the St. Anthony’s Triathlon one of the largest races in the United States. We also thank you for your patience as we work to make decisions during this fluid situation. We certainly look forward to seeing you again in downtown St. Petersburg at the St. Anthony’s Triathlon.
As part of BayCare, a leading health system in the Tampa Bay region, the team at St. Anthony's Hospital is determined to do our part to keep our participants and the local community informed about preparation, protection and potential impact. BayCare has been working internally to prepare its teams should the virus show up in one of its facilities and it’s been communicating regularly with local practitioners and government officials at the local, state and federal level, to ensure patients, team members and the community are protected. Read how BayCare is preparing at www.BayCare.org/Coronavirus.
