Description

“OUR NATION OWES A DEBT TO ITS FALLEN HEROES THAT WE CAN NEVER FULLY REPAY"

The 3rd Annual Louisville Honor Earned, Remembrance Owed (H.E.R.O.) Run/Walk/Ruck honors those who died in battle and those we lost at home to the psychological wounds of war. Join us on Saturday, June 1, 2024 for a day of camaraderie and connection. Proceeds will benefit our new charity partner USA Cares, a four-star rated charity providing financial assistance to post-9/11 Veterans and their families, as well as the University of Louisville's Salute to Service Scholarship Fund.

In its first two years, the Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck had over 650 participants and donated over $34,000 to help Kentuckiana Veterans and their families. Join us to support these two great charities, learn more about local Veteran organizations, and take home a unique finisher's medal.

The Louisville H.E.R.O. Run/Walk/Ruck is a family friendly event, and will once again take place at the University of Louisville Cardinal Track Stadium, 2125 South Floyd Street in Louisville. The route will leave the track and field stadium, take participants around the beautiful University of Louisville campus, and finish on the track.

About Supported Charities

USA Cares

USA Cares was launched through a grassroots partnership between WAVE-3 TV in Louisville, KY, the Mid-South Division of Kroger Food Stores, and the Association of the United States Army Fort Knox Chapter. USA Cares is now a 501(c)(3) national non-profit organization that has assisted thousands of Veterans and Military families facing hardships related to service.

USA Cares’ mission is to provide post-9/11 military Veterans, service members, and their families with financial assistance and post service skills training to create a foundation for long-term stability.  Their services improve the quality of life for Veterans and their families and reduce potential factors that can contribute to Veteran suicide.

University of Louisville Salute to Service Scholarship Fund

With more than 1,000 self-identified Veteran students and dependents of Veterans using transferred Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits, UofL has a large Veteran student community. While UofL has been named “Military Friendly” for 11 consecutive years, one small way the university is helping Veteran and dependent students even more is by having a scholarship fund these students can access.

The Salute to Service Veteran and Dependent Scholarship Fund is used to assist Veterans and their dependent students to help them achieve their academic goals and their career aspirations. The fund is administered through the Military-Connected Student Resource Center. UofL began offering this scholarship in the fall 2022 semester.
