Mount Afton Challenge

January 17, 2026

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Per the CDC…  A suicide occurred every 11 minutes in 2023  (over 1.6 million attempts)

Mount Afton Challenge - Mission Statement:  Unifying our community in support of mental health and suicide prevention, our mission is to cultivate hope, break stigma, and raise vital funds by way of the annual Mount Afton Challenge event.

Honoring a Legacy, Supporting a Mission

The Mount Afton Challenge is proudly hosted by F3 Afton, a local workout group deeply rooted in community and purpose. This event carries a mission born from loss, love, and the urgent need for change.

On July 22, 2021, our community lost a remarkable soul—our friend and brother, Damon Hudgens (F3Amway)—to suicide. His absence is still deeply felt, and it has awakened a powerful awareness of the silent struggles many face around us. In Damon's honor, we’ve committed ourselves to making a lasting impact—because there is still more work to be done, and more lives to uplift.

To further this mission, all funds raised from the 2026 Mount Afton Challenge will be donated to the Cabarrus County Chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). This organization shares our vision: to provide hope, support, and resources that help prevent such losses in the future.

Together, we move forward—with purpose, with heart, and in Damon's name.

Mental Battle

Our brothers in the larger F3 Nation movement at F3 Louisville created #f3mentalbattle with a goal to bring awareness to mental health issues that affect everyone, with a particular focus on adult men... where mental illness and suicide is at a crisis level.  F3 Nation has embraced this idea and encourages Pax to bring up the topic of mental health, and for Pax to speak however their heart so moves them knowing that it will be confidential with their brothers.  The hope and prayer is that an on-going reminder like #f3mentalbattle is another small step toward a stronger brotherhood of men that will result in no more premature loss of life.  The message is simple... you are NOT OWN YOUR OWN!  We love you and we are here!   #NoOYO
