Due to the COVID-19 Virus, the 2020 RJA Memorial Mighty Montauk  Triathlon has been cancelled.  The 2021 race is scheduled for June 13th 2021. 

Announcements will be made when registration is open.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation has caused, but is was due to circumstances entirely beyond our control.


The Montauk Triathlon Finish at the Triangle of Star Island Road and West Lake Drive

Founded in 1982 by the late Robert J. Aaron.

Long considered the east end season opener would be celebrating its 38th anniversary this year. It features a very scenic course through the beautiful hamlet of Montauk. The race consists of a 1 mile swim, 20 miles bike and 6.2 miles run. This fun event is USAT sanctioned.

This course must be completed in 3 hours 55 minutes.

SWIM - The distance is 1 mile in the calm salt water of Lake Montauk. The course is out and back. Since this race is in the spring, wet suits are recommended (water temperature is normally around 55 degrees Fahrenheit).

BIKE - The distance is 20 miles taking you along Montauk historical routes; giving you a bird's eye view of the famous Montauk Lighthouse. The course is out and back with some hills. Hardshell helmets (ANSE approved) and bar end plugs are mandatory. This race adheres to USAT policy of NO DRAFTING.

RUN - The distance is 6.2 miles through the scenic side of Montauk challenging hills . NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ON THE COURSE (ex: iPods, MP3 players etc). No water stops on the bike course. However, water stops are at one mile intervals on the run course.

All athletes are welcomed to participate. However, non-USAT members must purchase a one day ($15.00) membership at check-in. (Please note, this is not included in your registration).We are now offering annual memberships, but no duplicates at check-in. Annual members who do not bring their membership cards must pay the $15.00 one day registration fee. Please contact for membership information.


USAT rules mandates NO DRAFTING on the course. All participants must have approved ANSI/SNELL helmets. Helmet straps must be fastened before bike leaves racks and remain fastened until bike is replaced. Bike and run numbers must be displayed throughout the entire race. Bar end plugs are mandatory. All athletes must participate in their age group division relative to their age at December 31st of the current year.
