A History of Openness and Inclusion

  • 2013 - Inaugural youth triathlon in partnership with the Houston Texans and Texas Children's
  • 2014 - Inaugural Houston Texans Kids Triathlon presented by Texas Children's
  • 2016 - Inaugural youth triathlon at Typhoon Texas Waterpark included a Short Course and Long Course Triathlon
  • 2017 - We welcomed our first known finisher with autism spectrum disorder at the finish line.
  • 2020 - We launched the Financial Assistance Program covering registration fees, training costs, and assisting with needed equipment purchases to ensure financials were not a barrier for kids to participate. In addition, we added a Virtual option for kids to participate in the event while not attending the event live so travel and specific times were not a barrier to participate.
  • 2021 - We added a Splash & Dash division to allow kids without a bike or who weren't comfortable on a bike in a competition setting to participate in the event.
  • 2022 - We welcomed our first paratriathlon finisher at the finish line.
  • 2023 - We welcomed our first known participant with down syndrome at the finish line, added an official Paratriathlon division, and added a non-binary option to all registration divisions. In addition, we launched the Invitational division for the young elite athletes to be able to compete head-to-head.
  • 2024 - We are adding more division options including an Adaptive Splash & Dash, an Assisted Triathlon, and an Assisted Splash & Dash. These new options open the door for kids who wouldn't be able to complete the course on their own.
